KRA Announces Auction Date for Unclaimed Items at Moi and Eldoret Airports

The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) intends to sell off a variety of items at the Moi (Mombasa) and Eldoret International Airports, as they have not been claimed by their owners.

On Saturday, the tax authority issued a notice revealing that an auction will take place at the Eldoret airport on November 15. Over 150 smartphones, including iPhones, Oppo, Vivo, and Samsung models, will be up for bidding. Alongside these devices, feature phones (also known as kabambe), music systems, and e-cigarettes will also be available for purchase. To gather more details and examine the items, interested bidders are urged to visit the airport on either November 13 or 14.

The Customs and Border Control Department recently issued another notice, stating that the auction for items at the Moi International Airport in Mombasa will take place from December 18 to 20. This auction will include a diverse selection of items such as clothing, used laptops, drones, jewellery, and gemstones. The department clarified that these goods have either been abandoned or have overstayed their stint at the airport.

A section of the notice highlights that an auction will be held from December 18-20 if the custom Warehouse Keeper does not appear within 30 days of the notice. Prospective buyers are encouraged to visit the airport before the auction to inspect the merchandise. The scheduled dates for viewing the items were set for November 14-15. It is worth noting that the authority did not disclose any information regarding the prices of the goods.

Additionally, several items, such as chemicals, milk powder, hair products, and shisha pots are slated for destruction at the Mombasa airport due to their classification as prohibited.

Why do Kenyans(including Western diasporans) believe they should tax-exempt in Kenya? Why do these Western diasporans pay taxation to the last cent wherever they live? How do they expect the 48 bloated/useless/idle governments to be financed if not heavy taxation?Overhauling the constitution to downsize the bloated government and taming corruption are the only solutions to bring down the cost of living.Ingine yote ni UPUUZI TUPU.
