Crucial Breakthrough: Car Used in Meru Blogger's Abduction, Dumping Traced by Investigators

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has located a vehicle believed to have been used in the kidnapping and subsequent disposal of the body of Daniel Muthiani, also known as Sniper, a political activist and blogger who was murdered.

DCI Director Martin Nyabuto and his team of murder investigators spent the entire Friday at Meru Central Police Station, meticulously examining the Toyota Premio for fingerprints. Their goal was to identify anyone who had come into contact with the car. Lenny Kisaka, the head of the DCI Eastern region, expressed suspicions that the vehicle may have been used to transport the body from Meru town to a densely wooded area near Mutonga River in Tharaka Nithi County. Kisaka shared that the car had been confiscated in Meru County and that forensic analysis was currently underway to determine the next steps.

Muthiani disappeared on December 2, 2023, and his body was found on December 16. Government pathologist Johansen Oduor conducted an autopsy and determined that Muthiani had endured torture before being strangled to death. This heinous act sparked outrage among advocates for human rights and bloggers, who demanded that the DCI swiftly investigate and prosecute those responsible for Muthiani's murder. Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza's brother is scheduled to be charged with murder on January 29.

As per the investigative team's findings, Vincent Mureithi Kirimi, also known as Supuu, is suspected to be the driver who arranged for the vehicle used in the kidnapping and brutal murder of Sniper. In addition to Supuu, there were three other individuals in the vehicle: Brian Mwenda, Christus Manyara Kiambi, and Boniface Kithinji Njihia, also known as DJ Kaboom. The DCI shared this information on their social media platforms on Saturday morning. During a visit to Maua town in Igembe South, President William Ruto and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua assured the residents that the government would ensure that the perpetrators of Muthiani's murder would face the full force of the law.

The Deputy President emphasized that justice would be served, as Kenya is a country that upholds the rule of law. He stated that those responsible for the crime would be arrested, charged, and imprisoned, as murder is a grave offence that will not go unpunished.
