The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has addressed allegations concerning purported "ghost polling stations" in Baringo County during the 2022 General Elections.
These claims suggested that President William Ruto and other candidates received votes from non-existent polling stations. However, the IEBC has clarified the situation, emphasizing the thorough process involved in mapping and gazetting polling stations. In a formal statement, the Commission explains that the process of identifying and approving polling stations involves input from various stakeholders, including political parties and the general public.
The alleged "ghost polling stations," which were reportedly located in Baringo County and named Kampi Ya Nyasi Secondary School, Kasaka Primary School, Kasaka Mixed Secondary School, and Kaptiony Girls' High School, were not among the officially gazetted 46,229 polling stations used during the General Election. The IEBC urged Kenyans to verify accurate information through the publicly available official list of polling stations. The controversy surrounding these purported "ghost polling stations" gained traction after an investigative report by NTV revealed that the schools in question had no physical presence beyond signposts, despite having board members and bank accounts.
This raised suspicions among some Kenyans, particularly after an altered photo surfaced online showing Kaptiony Girls High School listed as a polling station on the IEBC portal with President Ruto garnering 37,635 votes out of the possible 50,237 votes cast in Baringo North Constituency. Subsequent fact-checking efforts by Kenyans clarified that only Kaptiony Primary School in Baringo North was officially listed as a polling station, and the photo had been manipulated by opposition supporters to challenge the presidential election results announced on August 15th.
Ultimately, President Ruto secured victory with 7,176,141 votes, including 175,170 votes from Baringo County, surpassing his opponents Raila Odinga, George Wajackoyah, and David Mwaure.

Who is assigning teachers to ghost public schools?
Who are the returning officers who certified the elections in those polling stations.
So, IEBC has been paying people to sit and home and certify nonexistent polling results?
All polling stations and schools in Kenya need to be physically verified.
It appears there very many public schools and more than 10,000 polling stations that don’t exist.
10,000 polling stations is the number of new polling stations announced by IEBC the past election.
