Kenya Submits Raila's Official Documentation for AUC Seat

Kenya has officially submitted the necessary documentation for Raila Odinga's candidature to the African Union Commission (AUC) Chairmanship position.
The submission took place in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where the documents were presented to Dharmraj Busgeeth, the Ambassador of Mauritius and Dean of the AU's Eastern Region. Kenya's State Department of Foreign Affairs PS Korir Sing'oei has confirmed this development in an official statement. The decision to nominate Odinga, a former Prime Minister and prominent figure in Kenyan politics, was based on his extensive Pan-Africanist credentials and vast experience in governance.
The Kenyan government believes Odinga's suitability, extensive networks across Africa, and proven competence make him an ideal candidate to lead the AUC, Africa's premier continental organization. His nomination aligns with the AU's Agenda 2063 which aims to transform Africa into a global powerhouse. Odinga's candidature comes at a critical juncture for the African Union, which faces numerous challenges including political instability, economic development, and regional integration.
The role of the AUC Chairperson is crucial in navigating these issues and steering the organization towards its goals. The selection process for this position is highly competitive, involving rigorous scrutiny and voting by member states. Kenya's decision to put forward Odinga's candidature is seen as a strategic move to enhance its influence within the African Union. President William Ruto's administration has expressed strong support for Odinga's bid, forming a joint campaign secretariat to assist in rallying support from other member states.
However, while many view the nomination as a positive step towards increasing Kenya's continental influence, others perceive it as a political manoeuvre. The nomination comes in the wake of recent anti-government protests in Kenya, sparking debates about the country's political stability and governance. If elected, Odinga would have to maintain neutrality on issues related to development, conflicts, and politics across all African countries. Consequently, Odinga would need to step back from Kenya's political scene. The ODM party, to which Odinga belongs, has expressed confidence in his candidacy, stating they await the outcome of the process.

Raila Juma Oginga is not fit to apply for this extremely and sensitive position as the African Union Commission (AUC) Chairmanship position.
He will be 80 years in January 2025. He should do what President Joe Burden did by stepping down and allowing a younger person to take over the leadership of the AUC.
