DNA Tests Reveal Body Retrieved from Lake Yahud Not Missing Wajir MCA

Two DNA examinations have shown that the body recently recovered from Lake Yahud is not that of Wajir Ward Representative Yusuf Hussein.
The family confirmed on Thursday that private pathologists' DNA test results were negative, contradicting their initial identification of the remains. The disappearance of Ahmed, who serves as the MCA for Della Anole Ward, traces back to September 13, 2024, when he was reportedly abducted in Nairobi. According to his driver's account, the incident occurred while Ahmed was travelling from South C to Pangani Heights. Two black Land Cruiser Prados intercepted their vehicle, and armed individuals forcibly removed Ahmed.
Though the assailants took the driver's phone during the encounter, its subsequent recovery has aided investigators in establishing a partial timeline of events. The High Court has since directed both the Director of Public Prosecutions and the Director of Criminal Investigations to ensure the protection of a key witness. Justice Alexander Muteti has mandated these agencies to submit an updated investigative report by October 7.
Senior Superintendent of Police Justus Imaana acknowledges that while they had secured two CCTV clips, they are still working to obtain footage from the location where Ahmed was initially taken. The discovery of a mutilated body in Lake Yahud on October 20, 2024, initially appeared to bring a tragic conclusion to the search. The corpse exhibited signs of extreme torture, including severe beatings, burns, and facial disfigurement intended to prevent identification.
The victim's eyes had been removed, and acid had been applied to the face. The Ahmed family had initially identified the remains based on a distinctive finger deformity that Ahmed had from birth. However, the recent DNA analysis has reopened the investigation and deepened the mystery surrounding Ahmed's disappearance. The High Court has ordered the Inspector General of Police and the DCI to produce Ahmed, whether alive or deceased, while his family pursues legal action to compel security agencies to locate him.
