The body of Campbell Scott, a 58-year-old British executive who disappeared in Nairobi on February 17, was discovered in Makongo Forest on February 24, as confirmed by Makueni County Commander Alice Kimeli.
The grim discovery concludes a week-long search that involved local police and Interpol. Scott, a Senior Director at a credit scoring firm, was last seen after attending a conference at the JW Marriott Hotel in Nairobi. A colleague, who had travelled with him, alerted authorities when he was unable to reach Scott by phone. The hotel staff advised the colleague to contact the police, initiating the search effort.
The body, found by herders approximately 96 kilometers from Nairobi, was concealed in a green sack and in an advanced state of decomposition. Authorities confirmed the identity as that of Scott. Evidence suggests foul play; Scott's hands and legs were bound with green nylon rope, indicating he may have been murdered elsewhere and his body disposed of in the forest. The decomposition state implies Scott may have been dead for several days before the discovery.
Police have detained a taxi driver and a waiter for questioning in connection with Scott's disappearance and death. An investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. A post-mortem examination is scheduled for Tuesday to determine the exact cause of death.
Scott arrived in Kenya on February 16 for a series of professional engagements, including meetings with officials from the UK, the US, and other African nations.
His disappearance and death have raised concerns about the safety of foreign nationals and high-profile individuals in the region.
