Nakuru Police Investigate Husband in Connection with M-Pesa Attendant's Death

Police in Nakuru have apprehended Zachariah Wanjohi, the husband of Hannah Waithera, a 23-year-old M-Pesa attendant whose body was discovered last week after she was reported missing.
The arrest comes amid intensified investigations into the circumstances surrounding Waithera's death. Waithera vanished on May 21 after leaving her place of work on Kenyatta Avenue in Nakuru Town, reportedly to deposit Sh250,000 in a bank. She never returned, and her phone was subsequently switched off. Days later, her body was found at Technology Farm in Nakuru West Sub-County. The remains, which were in an advanced state of decomposition, were transported to Nakuru City Mortuary.
According to Nakuru East Sub-County Police Commander Samson Adanje, Wanjohi was taken into custody on Monday by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI). He is currently assisting with the investigation and is expected to be arraigned in court as police seek additional time to gather evidence.
"He is cooperating and helping us with the investigation," Adanje confirmed to the press
Wanjohi's sister, Esther Wambui, expresses surprise at her brother's arrest, stating that he was initially invited to the police station to provide a statement. Wambui said the police record listed "murder". The disappearance of Waithera triggered an extensive search by her employer, family, and friends.
Waithera's family described her as a hardworking and ambitious young woman. Her mother, Mary Njeri, emphasizes the family's demand for justice, saying, "She was our hope. We want those responsible to be held accountable."
Police have appealed to the public for any information that may assist in the ongoing investigation. The authorities have assured the community that a thorough inquiry is underway to uncover the truth behind Waithera's death.
