Several teenagers were on Saturday arrested in Nairobi while taking explicit photos.
This comes days after Kenyans on Twitter launched a campaign under hashtag #ifikiewazazi to expose young boys and girls posting nasty photos of themselves on social media.
Police officers stormed Nairobi Michuki Park where several teenagers were arrested while engaging in illicit activities including taking nude and semi-nude images.
The police operation came after a tip-off from the public. It is reported that the teens have been engaging in immoral behaviors at various joints in Nairobi and other areas, after which they upload obscene photos of themselves on the internet.
Nairobi Central OCPD Robinson Thuku said they have launched a crackdown on those involved in the activities, including photographers working with the teenagers.
Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) CEO and self-declared Kenyan 'moral police' Ezekiel Mutua said parents, society and the media was to blame for increased moral decadence among young people.
“#ifikiewazazi epitomises the culture of debauchery and deviance among the youth. It’s Project X in disguise. Our youth are defying authority – God, parents, Government etc. At the heart of this deviance is a disturbed voice of the youth who have lost sense of direction because we, the adults, have failed them."
“The parents have failed them. The media have failed them. The leadership has failed them. Religion has failed them. We must begin to have an honest conversation about the breakdown of the moral fabric." He said in a post on Facebook.
Mutua added: "We have put priority on the physical infrastructure and neglected the moral infrastructure. We have built the hardware but the software is faulty and must be fixed first:“
