Fair to say the Wazungus were doing their singles while others did their doubles and triples- Managing the runners and getting 30% of the cut. No surprise there! Choice Choice. Like one guy always invest in Kenya and save some of the loot from the ma-doubles. Fine, but you can also invest where you are. Learn a few skills to add to your hard earned money...
I agree with you but we joined you to cheer. Me and my family were there (6 people) and our 2 year old Jr. If you saw the NBC or CBS clip, on the right corner of the grand stand, we waved the Kenyan flag furiously, and I gave Lawrence Cherono the Kenyan flag as he walked away, of course surrounded by wazungu and he said 'asante'. This is his first marathon. Did you see the spectacular push to beat the Ethiopian who gritted his teeth but could not not dash faster.
More importantly, my cousin cooked ugali, spinach and nyama for them (Cherono, Kirui and Rono), and we drove from Newton Mass. to Copley center to deliver. We were rooting for Kirui cz he is family, but a Kenyan win is still great.
I think that we as Kenyans could set up something to morally support our runners. The govt cannot or keeps away because these are commercial races. Some of their trainers have never set foot in Kenya. Runners are just their production vessels. One day we will grow up and do it...I hope
Thanks for supporting our runners. I hope you took Mala as well. Just Saying.......Good Job!
Hongera brada.
Afrika juu. Hongereni sana Ndugu Cherono wa Kenya, Desisa wa Ethiopia, Chepkemoi wa Kenya, na Dada Kiplagat wa Jamhuri yetu tukufu ya Kenya.
As we congratulate our athletes in Marathon dominance, we also have to be mindful that this dominance is not embraced by every country.
Those who know the value of seeing the best athletes in the world compete in their backyards consider it a good opportunity, and well come such events with delight.
There are some races where foreigners are banned from running.Essentially the ban is aimed at Kenyans more so than other african world beaters.
Nigeria introduced marathon races in Largos about 4 years ago.Since then, all prizes have gone to East Africa. In one writer's words,"all the prize money has been carted to East Africa".These writer wants marathons scrapped, and the money invested in short races where Naijas stand achance to do well. What Naijas are forgetting is that Marathons have become abig business attaction wolrd over.Basically an economy-booster.And this is the very reason why they started marathons in Largos.
The writer kept stressing high altitude as the reason Kenyans are doing well, but he fails to note that there are many other factors that go into winning marathons. Were it largely based on altitude, people in Nepal would then the the world beaters...
How will africa unite if small sporting activity that brings africans together is being discouraged just because the home grown athletes are no match for other africans. This should be celebrated, and not frowned upon. By the way congratulations to Cherono. What a gutsy performance.Well done Kenya.
Ndugu @ Maxiley:
Ndugu Maxiley, ningependa kukuona kwenye mashindano haya. Je, utakaposhinda nitajuaje ni wewe? Jina "Maxiley" ni jina lako la kweli au ni jina la bandia (fake name) kama jina langu "Imara Daima?"
Awhile ago i explained how maxey came about.Sauti ya was favorably compared to Tabuley,so buddies coined that "maxiley"my initials, and ley.
As for running, ukisikia kenyan from Florida, and wearing a bandana with mwakilishi, utajua ni mimi, hopefully nitashinda.
Kenyans never show up at the finish line at all...too busy doing doubles.
You can't even get close to the winners...white people make a shield around them.
It was an interesting day though, many Ethiopians actually showed up waving their flags and only white people and me were waving the Kenyan flag.
Saddening to watch how the white people whisked away Lawrence back to the park plaza hotel across the street from the finish line
