"Githeri Man" Unites Kenyans, Deflects Election Results Tensions

As tension and anxiety surrounding presidential results continue to pile on Kenyans, social media users (KOT) have found a uniting factor in the photo of a man who was pictured eating the popular Kenyan meal Githeri while queuing to cast his ballot during Tuesday's election.

The man has been identified as Martin Kamotho and now dubbed 'Githeri Man', was spotted absentmindedly enjoying the meal as he joined millions of Kenyans who braved the cold and damp weather to cast their vote. Kamotho hails from Kayole and works for the Nairobi County government as a cleaner. The 41 year-old is married with one child.

He said he woke up early to vote for President Uhuru Kenyatta and Mike Sonko, whom he believes will transform his life.

Kamotho 's photo has caused quite a buzz under the hashtag #GitheriMan, with both Jubilee and Nasa for a moment supporters uniting to make fun out of the scene.

"The githeri man seems to have diverted the Kenyans' attention," Dadau Mwanafuu said.
