President Uhuru Holds Talks with IEBC Chair Wafula Chebukati, Says Jubilee Has No Demands

President Uhuru Kenyatta held talks with Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairperson Wafula Chebukati on Monday regarding the repeat election set for Thursday.

During the meeting, the Head of State told Chebukati he was ready for the election and that his party has no conditions on the commissions other than delivering its constitutional mandate to deliver an election.

“We made it clear that we have no demands or conditions on this subject. We have made funds available for the IEBC to do its job. Now they really should deliver,” the President said in a meeting held in his Harambee house office and attended by Deputy President William Ruto.

“We only insist that elections be held on October 26, that’s the timeline set by the IEBC in terms of conditions set in the annulment of the Aug 8 elections,” the President added.

Chebukati held a similar meeting with National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga in a bid to end the impasse facing the October 26th poll, which he has since withdrawn from.

Addressing journalists after the meeting, the ODM leader indicated that no consensus was reached with the electoral commission and maintained that there will be no elections on Thursday.

Raila has since called on Chebukati to be "man enough" and postpone the election.

President Uhuru met Chebukati while ‘totally drunk’ – source

President Uhuru Kenyatta yesterday met Independent Elections and Boundaries commission Chair Wafula Chebukati while totally indebriated, multiple sources have told Kenya Today.

The meeting, at Harambee House, had been called by the IEBC Chair to seek consensus on the fate of Oct 26 polls. Twice, Uhuru had avoided participating in a joint meeting of presidential candidates, which had to be called off each time.

Uhuru sees himself more as the sitting president, and relates with IEBC as such, not as a presidential candidate.

“We made it clear that we have no demands or conditions on this subject. We have made funds available for the IEBC to do its job. Now they really should deliver,” the President said, according to a Facebook write-up by PSCU.

“We only insist that elections be held on October 26, that’s the timeline set by the IEBC in terms of conditions set in the annulment of the Aug 8 elections,” adds the statement, quoting President Uhuru.

Last week, Chebukati met NASA Leadership led by Prime Minister Raila Odinga. This also happened at the request of the IEBC Chair.

Yesterday’s meeting with Uhuru had dramatic twists and turns, as Chebukati who had arrived at the Office of the President was ushered in an empty lobby where he sat in the middle of the room, alone, for nearly two hours, awaiting the arrival of President Uhuru, who walked in some minutes past 10am.

Uhuru came already clad in Jubilee campaign gear, and appeared not the least prepared to constructively discuss any serious issue. His Deputy William Ruto walked in, moments later, to re-state the position of Jubilee, as the totally drunk Uhuru wobbled.

Neither Chebukati nor IEBC has issued a statement following the meeting.

My dear Raila Babu, your time has come to retire and take care of your grandkids. U are too old to behave that way. Otherwise, will end up in hell. Never a single day will be president of kenya.

@Sukari:

Hata ingawa tuna mila tofauti, lugha tofauti, imani tofauti, " Sisi sote ni familia moja."

Ni muhimu tutumie zawadi aliyotupa MWUMBAJI ambayo inaitwa AKILI, ili, " TUKAE NA UDUGU, AMANI NA UHURU, RAHA TUPATE NA USTAWI.
