British MP Pokes Holes at Kenya's Presidential Election, Says Somaliland's Was Better

A British Member of Parliament has poked holes at Kenya's recent presidential elections, describing it as “total chaos”.

Richmond Park MP Zac Goldsmith said the recent presidential election in Somaliland was way better than the Kenyan one. Goldsmith made the statement while addressing the UK House of Parliament on Wednesday during Prime Minister Theresa May's question time.

In his speech, the conservative MP asked Prime Minister Theresa May to join him in commending Somaliland, a self proclaimed protectorate of Britain, for conducting a “free, fair and credible election” in a politically volatile region.

"With recent events in Zimbabwe and total electoral chaos now in Kenya, will the Prime Minister join me in celebrating the hugely successful election this week in Somaliland?” he said.

He continued: “… with direct help from this country, from our government, the national election commission in that country has conducted a template election described by the international observer mission as peaceful, transparent, fair and totally uncontested.’’

In her response to the MP, May skipped the Kenyan election matter and instead mentioned the role her administration had played in ensuring stability in Somaliland.

“My honourable friend raises an important issue. This government is pleased with the work that we have done to support the government in Somalia to ensure that we can see those elections take place in the way that my honourable friend has said," she said.

It's good to note he is a British member of Parliament not a Kenyan member of Parliament. He can comment but Kenya is no longer a colony. If you have to address anything, first address the atrocities committed on Kenyan citizens by Britain over so many years when you colonized us. Leave Kenya alone, after all said and done, what happens to Kenya will be for Kenyans. If there are mistakes, Kenyan's will learn from them just like Britain and countries have had their share of mistakes and have had to learn from them. So will we learn from ours. You do not hear our members of Parliament commenting on political affairs in Britain. Please keep your opinion to yourself because its just that. An opinion. It has no weight in Kenya as you are not an elected representative of any of the counties. Let our courts and our representative s learn by themselves. They will make the necessary laws that fit our country unique issues when time is right. For now be the good guest that is watching events from a distance without vested interests

....can't remember him...,my bad... was he one of the few observers of our elections or his is to compare and contrast? Where does he get his information from? Misinformed and misguided, he is.

Kenya's elections have always been fair and free, let no one lie to you!

Calling it as he saw it.You do not have to be a cook to criticise the cooking.Irony is that the international observers some of which came from his country also gave their blessing calling the repeat elections as free and fair when some counties never voted and to this day this so called elected government has not solved the mystery of the murdered election official.A sham and a shame soon even Zimbabwe will be congratulated for having a smooth transition of power better than Kenya meanwhile this jubilee government keeps pretending that everything is A okay hakuna matata.
