Governor Sonko Outlaws Protests in Nairobi during President Uhuru's Big Day

Nairobi Governor Mbuvi Sonko has outlawed any demonstrations in Nairobi during President Uhuru's inauguration on Tuesday.

Sonko further warned the opposition National Super Alliance (NASA) against holding a parallel rally in the city during President Uhuru's installation. The opposition has declared it will hold a rally at Jacaranda grounds, which will act as a memorial service for supporters killed by police one week ago.

Uhuru will take Oath of Office on Tuesday at a ceremony to be held at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.

The opposition's rally will run side by side to the ceremony to swear in President Uhuru for his second term in office. Governor Sonko has however said that Jacaranda Gardens will not be available for any protesters seeking to disrupt President Uhuru's big day.

“As leaders, we respect Raila, as a statesman, he knows the Constitution and he is aware that any attempt to be sworn in is uncalled for,” Sonko said.

“A few people should not be allowed to violate the rights of others. We have witnessed women being stubbed, property looted and others destroyed. We will not allow this to continue,” Governor Sonko.

Nairobi county police boss Japhet Koome has also declared NASA’s planned rally at Jacaranda Grounds illegal, noting that police’s priority in Tuesday will be on Uhuru’s inauguration.

“Information reaching us is that there is another meeting on Tuesday other than the President’s inauguration. The law is very clear if you were to hold a public gathering. You have to inform the police. Up to this morning we have not been notified of any other meeting on Tuesday,” said Koome.

Good job Sonko! I understand city morgues are closed to keep Raila goons from desecreting dead bodies by parading them around town for political points. Also understnad Jacarada grounds are surrounded by KDF and no room any place for Raila to rain on Uhuru's parade!

Timely call Governor Sonko. Just a few days Governor of Kisumu gave elaborate reasons for banning them demos in his county and which happens to be nasa's bedrock. If they have no charity at home why have it in Nairobi's backyard.
