Yvonne Wamalwa - Widow of Former Vice President Kijana Wamalwa, Passes Away

Yvonne Wamalwa, the widow to former Kenyan Vice President Michael Kijana Wamalwa's  has passed away. Her family said that she passed on Thursday morning in Nanyuki, Laikipia County, where she had paid a visit to her sister.

There are plans to airlift her remains to Lee Funeral Home in Nairobi.

Until her demise, Yvonne was working as a director of foreign service in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Yvonne has previously served as the Deputy Permanent representative of Kenya to the United Nations habitat offices in Nairobi and Deputy High Commissioner of Kenya to Australia under former President Mwai Kibaki’s government.

"We mourn with the family and friends of Yvonne Wamalwa, widow of former Vice President Kijana Wamalwa. She served her country with passion, commitment and dedication during her stint at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, United Nations and later as Kenya’s diplomat to Australia," Deputy President William Ruto said in a message of condolences via Twitter on Thursday.

The cause of her death remains unknown.

Her husband died in August, 2003 while in office as Vice President.
