I Won't Surrender My Passport, Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho Vows

Mombasa governor Ali Hassan Joho has vowed not to surrender his passport to government, even if the state suspends it.

Joho is among National Super Alliance (Nasa) leaders who the government is said to be targeting in the ongoing crackdown on opposition figures involved in the swearing-in of Raila Odinga.

Speaking to the press in Mombasa on Wednesday, Joho said had not received any notice of the suspension of his passport and even if he receives one, he won't surrender the travel document.

"Even if, and when, the order is made, I will not hand it over," he said, adding that he learned of the government's move through the media.

He vowed to resist any attempt to take away the passport, noting that he acquired it legally.

"Let them dare," he said.

Joho, Nasa strategist David Ndii, Siaya senator James Orengo, former Machakos senator Johnson Muthama, Homa Bay Women Representative Gladys Wanga and business mogul Jimmy Wanjigi are among opposition figures whose passports were revoked on Tuesday.

Failure in an exam is not a failure in life. U can't measure successof an individual based on his academic achievement. The government's noise is from debes. This storm will soon b over . They won't believe what happens thereafter.

I like how these " businessman" think they make it happen all by themselves, in other words you are also working for someone else . me in my consultancy- working for you but I get to sleep well at night, I put few hours from you and fellow ignorant wannabe businessmen and I end up living a stress free life than you. huh , better than a doctor ! Continue lying to yourself! You sound like someone who was bragging here 2 years ago about being a truckpreneur

Joho should know that revoking a document means trashing. He will not b able to travel using it whatsoever. Our terminals r digitized. Atapitia wapi?

A majority of NRM leaders have travel docs they intend to use if we (and it will not be) start fighting.

Joho won over the other candidates on Aug 8 2017 elections who accepted and moved on. instead of forming a resistance movement. Nini hii jameni? Tafakali.

I am not really surprised of the government moves against these people. For many years they have been inciting the masses, calling for their areas to secede from the Republic, and for the overthrow of the government etc, etc. It is about time to pay the piper. You can oppose the policies of the government but don't make it personal unless you expect the same. Kenya belongs to Kenyans. No country can tolerate hooliganism and destruction of properties.

people! Why fight about grades? We are diverting from the real issue and that is: WE Kenyans are so corrupt, we let this guy in and provided him with fake papers. Hongo is the bane of us. Period. Whilst you boast about your Mandingo ding dongs, he is using your TAX to pay for the best of everything for this family and newscasters who need a sponsor (wink!). The real shame is our ability to look the other way and sell our souls to allow the likes of Joho to infiltrate our system.

Kifaranga (not verified)     Fri, 02/09/2018 @ 01:21pm

@Sukari you always amuse me. Just like your Mwakilishi name. I love reading your comments and you make a lot of sense not forgetting your sense of humor. As you said, the problem is us. We elect these people and when they get to their respective offices, they use and treat us like toilet paper. Unless we change our mindset and the way we choose and elect our leaders, we will still be in this mess.

All this comments are helpless words which means nothing to our beloved country Kenya, so please try to change your mind and comment something useful

Ndugu zanguni Wakenya. It is time to work together and stop bringing foreign examinations standards as the measure for success and morality in our country. We need to work together in order to awaken our national conscience and humanity which died many years ago.

Solid examples of success without a college degree

1. Bill Gates has transformed life in a positive way thoroughout the world by his innovations and technology in the computer field. Ndugu Bill has no college degree.

2. Steve Jobs has done what Bill Gates did. The Ndugu had no college degree.

3. The Wright Brothers from Dayton, Ohio , transformed the way people travel by inventing the airplane. No college degree.

4. Thomas Edison invented the light bulb with a third grade education.

5. Brother Toroitich had no high school education, yet he led Kenya for 24 years. I would like to congratulate him for curbing crime in Kenya, and also making Kiswahili one of the subjects to be tested after finishing high school.

6. Ndugu Zuma of South Africa attained only 6th grade education and he is the president of South Africa.

7. John Majors was the prime minister of the UK with only a high school education.

Let us work together as brothers and sisters in order to reform the IEBC. Why? This body cleared people with a questionable past to run for an elective office. A few of you have said that Brother Joho and Brother Soniko are drug dealers. How were they cleared to run for an elective public office by the IEBC?

In addition to dismantling the entire IEBC, next we should dismantle the entire police force. This is the most corrupt institution in our country. Ndugu Boinnette is not fit to run this corrupt joint!

Kenyan Citizenship: Look at the case of The Leakey Family: Their children were born in Kenya, are fluent in Kiswahili and Gigikuyu. I hope Ndugu Mating does not deport him the way he deported Brother Miguna Miguna.

You see how dumb you are? All those you mentioned actually had A(s) n high school but chose invention over college. Comparing a drug dealer school dropout with a Microsoft tech founder is such an insult- if you even have the slightest clue about coding and it takes a genius to come up with a code with flow of command to make things work . What has Joho drug dealer accomplished that has made the world better and in awe? As for Zuma - well tyranny of numbers and Empathy which led to mass corruption in SA if you have ever read his history . So comparing independent variables is dumb but I do not fault you, when a man lowers themselves to insulting a someone based on gender because they do not have a come back, that exposes their shallowness. When a man gets to crude details to demean a woman that exposes their inferiority complex . When you cite Leakey family in awe, may I remind you there is a group of Indians in Meru, who speaks fluent Meru, another group of scottish and Britons who speaks fluent kikuyu in Nanyuki and other Brits in Kamba land who speak fluent Kamba. My children are learning chinese, and dutch - should I be all be amazed like an ignorant negro woman?. I speaks French and some Italian and I too was born in Kenya. Anyone can learn a language when they put their mind to it. Did you even watch some Kenyans trained to engineer SGR who speak fluent Mandarin ? Next time Imara you want to come for me , be very careful I can debate you 20 -0! Yes I do have a career and a life beyond Mwakilishi !

@ Kifaranga, thank you. I try to find the funny side of the mess facing us today. Sometimes I fail miserably and sometimes... well, asante ndugu!

Kifaranga (not verified)     Fri, 02/09/2018 @ 07:41pm

@ Blue braa, why can't you give us a start since all of our comments are helpless. Let's hear what you can offer that is helpful.

Imara (not verified)     Sat, 02/10/2018 @ 11:36am

Dada @formerlyguest2: Please learn from Dada Sukari. Once an apology is made, you move on. Dada, until we reform the IEBC, we will continue to elect people with closets full of skeletons. Bonne journee.
