Businessman Jimmy Wanjigi Charged with Importing Illegal Firearms

Controversial billionaire businessman Jimmy Wanjigi has been charged at a Nyeri court with importing and being in possession of illegal firearms.
Wanjigi was charged with 11 counts before Chief Magistrate Weddy Kagendo on Thursday. He was charged with being in possession of illegal guns including; a ceska pistol, a glock 19, a shot gun and a semi-automatic self loading military assault rifle calibre.
The guns were reportedly found in his residence in Muthaiga, Nairobi during a raid conducted by police in October, 2017 and at Luedecke & Co. Ltd offices located at Uganda House in Nairobi. Another was found at Armame Kenya Ltd situated at Utalii House, Nairobi.
There was a heavy police presence at Nyeri Law Courts on Thursday morning, where Wanjigi was expected to take a plea, but he did not appear.
Wanjigi’s attorney Kiogora Mugambi requested the judge to defer the case for 14 days, but the court declined and ordered him to appear before it on Monday, March 5th.
"They will be no need to serve him afresh. The summons are genuine and worth issued, signed and stamped. He should appear here on Monday,” the judge said.
On Wednesday, drama ensued along Kipande Rd in Nairobi as heavily armed police officers surrounded Wanjigi's car in an attempt to serve him with a court summon. The alleged National Super Alliance (Nasa) chief financier however locked himself in and refused to come out, forcing the cops to pin the document on his car's windscreen.
