NASA Threatens to Boycott 2022 Presidential Elections

National Super Alliance (Nasa) has threatened to boycott the 2022 presidential elections if the current Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is not reconstituted afresh.

In a statement after a meeting that brought together the four Nasa co-principals; Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka, Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetang'ula, the leaders said they don't have faith in the electoral commission as currently constituted.

The opposition leaders further called for cancellation of the boundaries review by IEBC scheduled for next year, saying the Wafula Chebukati-led commission has no capacity to conduct the crucial exercise.

“Given the amendments that Jubilee introduced to the election laws agreed on in the run-up to the 2017 polls, and having presided over elections marred by illegalities and irregularities, the IEBC cannot preside over the review of boundaries,” the four principals said in a statement.

They also called for dialogue with President Kenyatta's camp to discuss pressing matters of national interest and accused Jubilee of sponsoring a bill by Tiaty Member of Parliament William Kamket, which seeks to create the position of a powerful Prime Minister and ceremonial one seven-year term President.

“The coalition therefore wants Jubilee to come clean on the bill,” they said in the statement after a three-hour meeting at Hemmingways Hotel, Nairobi.

“The coalition asks all its members to equally put singular focus on electoral justice and vacate all discussions of 2022 elections. Nasa remains firm that there can be no elections in 2022 unless the causes of the irregularities and illegalities witnessed in 2017 are fully identified and addressed," they added.

“The (NASA) coalition will shortly convene a joint Parliamentary Group meeting to cement its position on these matters and particularly on the matter of electoral justice,” they said.

A lot can happen in four years, and going by past experience and how these guys have been operating of late there might not even be a NASA to talk about by the end of the year.

You boycotted the 2017 presidential elections. Where are you now? Or you want your NASA MPigs to lose the same way you did.
