Former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero to be Investigated over Hundreds of Millions Wired to His Bank Accounts

The court has allowed Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to investigate former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero's bank accounts.

The High Court on Friday granted the anti-graft body authority to probe Kidero's bank accounts over alleged embezzlement of public funds when he was still in office.

In March, detectives told a Nairobi court that huge amounts of cash suspected to be proceeds of corruption were wired in the former Governor's accounts.

EACC Investigation Officer, Mulki Umar told the court that there was sufficient reasons to probe the former Governor's accounts for possible involvement in corruption.

“Upon the analysis of the said bank accounts, it was noted that between January 27, 2011 and December 31, 2015, Dr Kidero received a cash deposit of Sh317,116,000,”  detective Umar told the court.

The investigation further showed that a sum of Sh200 million was deposited in a fixed deposit account belonging to Kidero.

In March, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko received a damning audit report that showed Sh21 billion was unaccounted for during Kidero's tenure.

@ Mkwnya Halisi. I hope you are right. This is what I have been advocating for: - Wananchi, showing their disgust at such thievery by peaceful demostrations. After all its their money.
I also advocate for budgetary -transparency. What is wrong with wananchi knowing where their money is going. See, if transparency was in action, someone would have asked why so muchmoney was being transfered in to Kidere's account....We need transparency, and accountability. And hefty punishment for the thieves. That's all.

And these are the thieves we're talking about. Children go about without food, no medicines for common ailments in our hospitals, no education for the poor and no jobs for school leavers and graduates, yet these elites and so called leaders are depositing tones of our tax payers stolen money into their private accounts with impunity. We need a " do not touch our money movement" to fight these enemies of the people!

One step, one hundred thousand steps to go before Kenya becomes a corruption free country. Thanks investigators for paying particular attention to to what Mwakilishi readers comments. It was just yesterday I brought up Kidero's name for been one of the most corrupt public figures in the country. I did not expect a swift reaction from you that soon. Thanks. We appreciate the role you are playing to make our country a Great democracy!!!. You have a long way to go. The list of the people that need to answer some questions on how they got super rich so fast is a long one. We have people like Sonko who few years ago was a matatu hawker and now is a billionaire. People like Charity Ngilu who also was an office secretary and now is a billionaire. People like Watengula who owns over ten thousand acres of an oil block in Turkana County even though he knows very little of County. People like Kalonzo who owns over a thousand acres in Yatta even though there is no record of the transaction on how he acquired it. And the list goes now

What are you waiting for? It has long been alleged Kidero milked Mumias Sugar millions of shillings. Instead of taking him to court he was rewarded with governorship of Nairobi. He bribed a judge with 200 millions to drop a case against him. Nothing was done. Now you want to surprise us with this: we are looking into whether he stole money from Nairobi County. We have heard enough of this. Kenyans want action not talk. Put him where he belongs, behind bars.

By the way, has Dr. Anne Mumbi Waiguru been arrested? Lifestyle audit is mandatory for all the elected servants of the people. How can a servant of the people decide how much s/he is going to be paid? How many times have you seen our servants in our parliament make exorbitant raises and give themselves unbelievable benefits?
