US, UK Commends Raila's Decision to Seek Legal Redress to Settle Presidential Outcome Dispute

The international community has poured praises on National Super Alliance leader Raila Odinga's move to seek legal redress at the Supreme Court to challenge President Uhuru Kenyatta’s presidential contest victory.

United Kingdom Ambassador to Kenya Nic Hailey said that Raila's decision will not only ensure justice is served to all parties but it also guarantee Kenya’s stability remains intact.

“They (NASA) clearly would want to produce the evidence that they have, there will be a process for that…I think that is exactly right because that is how these things are decided under the law,” he said, shortly after Odinga’s briefing.

Hailey called on Kenyans to remain calm as they await a determination of the court on the presidential results.

“People have a right to march in the streets to express their views but those demonstrations need to remain peaceful and everyone needs to wait for this matter to play out,” he asserted.

US ambassador to Kenya Robert Godec also commended the move by the opposition alliance.

“Obviously, there are many different issues and factors that need to be considered in any election. I look forward to seeing the Opposition case and the place for the decision that will be made,” he said.

IEBC declared President Uhuru Kenyatta the winner of last week's election after garnering 8,203,290 (54.2 per cent of the total votes cast) to Odinga’s 6,762,224 votes.
