Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko Dragged into Business Lady Monica Kimani's Murder Case

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has been dragged into business lady Monica Kimani's murder case.

In an affidavit filed at the High Court, a local NGO - Empowering Africa Through Media - accuses the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) of conducting a shoddy investigation into the murder of the 29-year-old woman.

The NGO questions why the DCI is yet to question individuals who were with Citizen TV news anchor Jacque Maribe on the night Ms Kimani was butchered at her apartment in Nairobi's Kilimani estate.

Empowering Africa Through Media says Nairobi Governor Sonko was among persons who were with Maribe at a night club in the city but has not been summoned to record a statement.

"The Director of Criminal Investigations is yet to summon and record statements from the people that Jacque Maribe was in the company of on the night of the murder including governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko who was with her and others at an entertainment joint in Nairobi,” the NGO’s chairperson Josiah Murigo says.

Murigu further notes that detectives have failed to consider in their inquest, CCTV footage of the entertainment joint where the journalist was on the night of Ms Kimani’s murder.

“Since the prosecution cites a complicated investigation as a reason for delay then why have they not dispensed the simple task like summoning and recording statements from the willing persons that were in the company of the 2nd accused person on the night of the murder," Murigu’s affidavit reads.

Maribe and her fiancée Joseph "Jowie" Irungu were charged with the murder of the businesswoman and remain in custody pending the hearing and determination of their bail application.
