Former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero Released on Sh8 Million Cash Bail

Former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero was on Tuesday freed on a cash bail of Sh8 million or Sh20 million bond in Sh68 million graft case.

Kidero was charged with abuse of office, money laundering, conspiracy to commit an offense of corruption, unlawful acquisition of public property, and dealing with suspect property alongside 15 others.

The accused persons pleaded not guilty to the charges and urged the court to free them on reasonable bail terms.

They are accused of defrauding the Nairobi County Government of Sh68 million through irregular payments to a law firm named Wachira, Mburu, Mwangi  & Company Advocates.

While delivering the bail ruling, anti-corruption court Magistrate Douglas Ogoti has also ordered Kidero and his co-accused to deposit their passports in court.

They have also been ordered not to interfere with witnesses in the case.

The suspects were arrested by detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on Friday and have been in the custody of police for four days.
