US Ambassador to Kenya Kyle McCarter Sends Tweet 'Mocking' Kenya's National Prayer Breakfast

United States ambassador to Kenya Kyle McCarter appeared to mock Kenya's National Prayer Breakfast held at Safari Park hotel in Nairobi on Thursday. President Kenyatta led leaders in attending the meeting, themed 'new dawn'.

In a tweet, Ambassador McCarter took a dig at Kenyan leaders attending the annual event.

"Kenyan leaders are praying and asking for forgiveness for the sin of thievery at the 17th annual National Prayer Breakfast."

"What a good start to take the nation on the path of prosperity the wananchi deserve. We must all do our part," McCarter sarcastically tweeted.

Earlier this month, McCarter said Kenyans implicated in corruption would not be allowed to visit the US.

He also said their family members would be denied entry into the US and their children block from schooling there.

"You cannot allow somebody to steal Sh20 billion and fine them Sh10 billion. We deal with thieves in a very brutal way, not even according to the law," he said.

“Somehow, we tolerate the theft of billions in Kenya. If we stop tolerating thievery, Kenya will be a shining star for democracy and prosperity in Africa."

His tweet has attracted hundreds of comments, likes, and retweets from online users.

@tobiasnivah said:" They aren't asking for forgiveness. They are thanking God for giving them an opportunity to loot and asking for more opportunities."

@rkmazer noted:"I'm an American living in Kenya too, and am disappointed in your statement. I would hope for more useful analysis and engagement on this topic that is costing Kenyans dearly. So my Kenyan taxes get misappropriated, then my American taxes go to palliative statements about it?"

@chrisogonas stated:" Ambassador I hope you're engaging the power of sarcasm. Career thieves need no prayers. Their prayers are a mockery to the nation and God. Before prayer, during prayer, after prayer, these folks will remain the same. No business conducting this prayer ritual every year. Bure!!!"

@Munene80 noted:"Ambassador is it really thievery alone affecting our Nation? What about jobs, economy drought, and cohesion."

@CisNyakundi:"Sin of thievery? Then the prayers should have been held at Kamiti prison not a five-star hotel with limited entry."

@Paul_Muite tweeted:"Balozi, this is a ritual we go through every year."

@Kimori_7 said:"love your sarcasm."

Hapo mimekubali, white privilege, would an African ambassador have that kind of authority in a sovereign country , and we are clapping for him, why? We can mock our government for ourselves. Wonder who introduced this corruption in the first place......

I completely agree. Only a fool would believe these crap from a western government official. They were the foundation of our problems way from the beginning. Even at this very moment, they are systematically destabilizing our continent to saw division and then pretend to come for our salvation with some fake aid and NGOs while they raping our continent with abandon. I wouldn't be surprised that even as we speak, some western government spies are probably roaming Africa and are infiltrating our governments. Western governments installed these fake leaders then once in awhile they pretend to chastise them...if the ambassador is serious, let them cut the borrowing until there's a legitimate legislation in place to tame corruption, otherwise he just need to shut up and enjoy our beautiful country that his boss once call a shithole!

@ Jags, time to blame mzungu is over. It has been over 50 years since Kenya garnered independance. Half acentury of our high learning institutions churning out graduates. How long are we going to blame mzungu? When are we going to use our brains and solve our own problems?Or are we incapable ?
If mzungu brought corruption, we should see the evil seeds it sowing and say,no to corruption.Dont you agree?

You are partly right, it's been over 50 years since independence. Therefore, Kenyans and Africa as a whole need to shape up and take full control of their countries. My only problem with western governments is that, they are not making it easy for African countries to progress, they have systemic methods of putting us down. And they have a reason for it. Without Africa, the west, would not make significant progress economically. They take a lot from Africa including almost minerals at the expense of our people. This is why most of western policies towards Africa is geared towards making sure we continue to remain weak because a stronger Africa would pose significant threat to them. This is why they would rather have a few political class remain working as their puppet. And I can bet that for any of African country's civil had some western influence. That's why mineral-rich country like Sierra Leon is still one of the poorest in the world. They know fully well that African politicians are corrupt, but that is also to their advantage because the loot still end up in western bank anyway. As we speak, some African countries central banks are still located in Europe, why? Why does the world bank continue to approve loans to Kenya knowing full well that there's high level of corruption in Kenya and that this money is not going to be fully accounted for? It is so because it is part of a means to keep Kenya and Africa in their control. When colonizers left Kenya and Africa, there was a deliberate method to ensure that they control Africa from far and that's still in full effect to date. Until everyone in Africa is in agreement with this fact, we will continue arguing among ourselves not knowing the real root-cause of our problem. Knowing this is the first step to removing the yoke of bondage. Otherwise every attempt is going to face a threat from the west indirectly.

After prayer, Uhuru should pull up his sleeves and get busy hunting the thieves in his camp...then we can talk. Bure kabisa!

Would a Kenyan Ambassador tweet about T and his misgivings and others like this? Colonialism 2.0.Mhalisi niko na wewe hapo. Balozi asomee watu wao. Why doesn't US freeze funds and show some action , who cares about tweets, the prayer breakfast happened anyway regardless.

When we talk of thievery, the US embassy is the biggest one of all. How would you explain paying 40k to acquire a visitors visa, you show up, they don't listen to you, kick you out and take your money? Isn't that broad daylight robbery? Where in US can one pay $400 without a refund if service is denied. If that is not injustice on poor people, not sure what is.

Since this is a prayer it should not be private could somebody find it and post it for all to interpret it the way they see it.

Note that its called breakfast prayer. An excuse to squander at least a million shillings of taxpayers money.
If they are serious about corruption they should should call it breakdown,or up corruption and they should fast for two days...some of these fat cats can surely do without ameal.
If this is a yearly event, and we dont see any fruits from their gatherings,it could be that God is displeased with these hypocrites. They should cleanse themselves first,by returning the looted cash.

How deep corruption is rooted with our so called "leaders" prayers should have been held at Kamiti prison or DCI headquarters

Jag (not verified)     Thu, 05/30/2019 @ 09:56am

I heard that Ruto was proclaiming his salvation and how God moved him from poverty to dining with the Kings! Who is he kidding? This is the same guy who sent police to tear-gas primary school kids when he wanted to grab their land! This is the same guy who kept denying that he never owned Weston Hotel only to come up later and agree that he actually has shares in the hotel. The truth finally revealed that the hotel is actually his...not just owning shares.

Mr Ambassador, you are a guest in Kenya. Yes, our leaders are praying but it's not for you to make comments about them. They are praying to their God, not to you. You are not a governor/master. Such comments are a reminder of what colonizers (Whites) have done to Africans both in Kenya and in the Diaspora through slavery, Imperialism, Colonialism, neo-colonialism and world order/disorder. While our leaders are stealing from us (not to excuse them) you guys maimed, sodomized, raped, castrated , hanged, and killed our fathers and forefathers. So no one can advocate for human rights or fairness if they themselves have not been fair to the "so called blacks" in Kenya and in your homeland. This is the past that lingers in the present. (We can never forget; how many are buried in mass graves-and others whose skulls still remain in the west ) Prosperity for Kenya will be brought about by Kenyan's waking up to the truth about who they are and reading outside of the prescribed books. We, as Africans need to read or listen to " Confessions of an Economic Hitman " so as to fully understand the character of our master and where corruption really starts.

Amina!!

Imara Daima (not verified)     Thu, 05/30/2019 @ 12:47pm

Way to go Mr. Ambassador - Kenya needs a watchdog to keep leaders straight though that's not sufficient.
The sad thing in this Breakfast prayer meeting is President Kenyatta knowledge Ruto's thievery remarks. This is true as we now all know Ruto's income can't support the weekly huge donations.

In other words, you can steal as long as you don't be caught. Kenya has legalized corruption under the God's Umbrella.

Well said @Imara. Prayers what for?. The Creator does not need to be worshipped, praised, sang for, danced for, or such other nonsense. Just do good, love all his creation. I almost threw up this morning seeing thieves asking their victims to pray for... corruption? Give me a break. The U.S ambassador is right.

If we have always had these prayer meetings and don't see the results of any fervent prayer, what does that tell us? Shouldn't we have learnt it is not working and tried a different strategy? like have the ass facing Mt Kilimanjaro instead of Mt Elgon?

@ Anos, If you read my post , I said the same thing, but facing Kilimanjaro,Elgon,or Menengai if your souls has not been cleansed of corruption, infidelity, and thievery, nothing will change. They must cleanse themselves first.and become a new.Otherwise its the same story different day same results.
