Ethiopian Airlines Launches Three Weekly Flights to New York's JFK Airport

Ethiopian Airlines has launched three weekly flights to New York's John F Kennedy (JFK) International Airport.

The airline said the new flights to New York will make stopovers in Abidjan, Ivory Coast (West Africa).

Ethiopian currently operates four other weekly flights to Newark, via Lome (Togo).

“It gives me great pleasure to launch flights to John F Kennedy Airport, our second station in New York in addition to Newark, connecting North America’s gateway with our extended network of more than 120 destinations globally,” said Ethiopian Airlines CEO Tewolde Gebre Mariam.

“The US is one of our most important markets owing to the presence of a large African diaspora and the promising multi-faceted relations between Africa and the USA. Hence, the new service is a significant addition to our expanding network and offers better connectivity for African and US passengers.”

Tewolde said the new service will boost trade, tourism, investment and people-to-people relations between Africa and the US.

The launch comes at a time when Kenya Airways plans to increase its flights to seven days a week on the route.

Ethiopian's move will increase competition for KQ ahead of the summer season in the US.

The new service to JFK Airport increases the number of Ethiopian Airlines flights to North America to 24.

KQ launched daily flights on the New York route in October last year but was forced to scale down to five per week due to low demand for tickets.

Fly this airline at your own risk along with Air Canada. Air Canada was to connect me to Ethiopian Airlines through Toronto sometime in 2016. First, Air Canada cancelled on me without informing me in advance. I did not realize my flight had been cancelled until I got to the airport at 6 am. Surprisingly all people stranded in the airport with me were immigrants! United helped to re-route my ticket but I ended up spending days in Europe trying to reconnect. It was summertime and most of the flights are overbooked. Coming back, I flew Ethiopian Airlines. The flight attendants were cruel, hated being bothered. They would turn off the call lights when people asked for help! On this hot day, you would think they would serve their customers plenty of water but all they gave us was the 3 oz glass of water and disappeared for quite a while. Ethiopian toddlers were all over the place running like the plane is a small community park but the other kids belonging to dark Africans could not do the same. The eyes they gave them stopped these little dark kids on their tracks. And thats just a tip of the iceberg with this airline. The thought of it makes me nauseated to this date!

Just FYI: Ethiopians are Descendants of King Solomon born of the Queen of Sheba (the Sudanese black Beauty of those Days that Visited the Son of David with Gifts and came back to Africa Pregnant with a Child). And so Ethiopians have Jewish blood and Jewish unbridled Racism, Hate, and Attitude. I have worked with them.

Why do you have to knock someone else down to feel better about yourself. It doesn't negate the validity of his experience. My last flight with Ethiopian was a comedy of errors - including being bumped twice once to Dulles off a flight in Addis despite a cloud nine boarding pass. They made up for it but lets not pretend they are perfect. You should try using that Solomon stuff on a cop, employer, racist bigot etc. See how well that works out for you.

10X. I think you're one of those Ethiopian Kakuman (once an Ethiopian refugee at Kamuma Refugee Camp). Then later used Kenya as your Launch pad to Abroad. Buy you seem to have Forgotten how much Respect you Owe Kenya's benevolence to you and your Siblings abroad (in Europe, the US, and Canada).

Ethiopian Airlines have always flown from Washington DC. They are now accepting the Challenge from KQ, who have thrown their hat into the ring, in New York. We have a President, who believes that only a White man can turn Kenya Airways around, and a White man in charge, who has no history of achieving anything. This, despite the fact that when KQ was 'The pride of Africa', it was being Managed by a black Kenyan. I still believe KQ is salvageable. We just have to go back to the basics. If it is to the US, then let it fly to where Kenyans are. Dallas, Boston, Atlanta. We would like to fly KQ there, but we are not going to sacrifice our hard earned money, to fly KQ, if there is a Cheaper alternative. Ethiopians and Somalis make up the African Diaspora in the Washington D.C. and New York Area, while Kenyans are in Boston, Atlanta, and Dallas. Nigerians are everywhere. Ethiopian is just going to where their people are. KQ just needs to fly to where their people are, if it wants a steady Customer base. This is not Rocket Science. It is just understanding where your bread is buttered. You do not need to import a White foreigner, to know it.

I would never fly Ethiopian Airlines. I am actually not sure why this airlines remains in existence. From Nairobi we had one hour connecting in Addis. Somehow the flight left prior to the gate closing. One would think you can complaint with federal aviation commission only to find its government owned. Anyway the ground crew at Addis are worse than “Iko public toilets” in the streets of Soweto. It took two days Yes two days to fly me in los Cabo’s where I was to attend a wedding. I missed all the events and with that @$ fly cheap and get what you deserve., this airline is shithole and I’d rather pay double price to better experience and airlines that I know if I compliant there will care less refunding me my little coins for inconvenience. Ethiopian airlines BURE KABISA

Ethiopians have a superiority complex. Fly their airline at your own risk. The airline is well run in some ways. KQ should be wound up to save tax es.
