IAAF Used Me Like a Human Guinea Pig, South Africa Runner Caster Semenya Says

South African middle- distance runner Caster Semenya has taken a swipe at the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF).

In a statement on Tuesday, the 800m Olympic champion has accused the IAAF of treating her like a human guinea pig.

The 28-year-old athlete claims that the world athletics' governing body used her to experiment with testosterone-reducing drugs.

"The IAAF used me in the past as a human guinea pig to experiment with how the medication they required me to take would affect my testosterone levels," said Semenya.

Semenya is opposing in court the federation's new rules requiring women athletes with a condition known as hyperandrogenism to artificially lower their testosterone levels for them to be allowed to compete in races of between 400m and 1 mile.

"Even though the hormonal drugs made me feel constantly sick, the IAAF now wants to enforce even stricter thresholds with unknown health consequences," Semenya said.

"I will not allow the IAAF to use me and my body again. But I am concerned that other female athletes will feel compelled to let the IAAF drug them and test the effectiveness and negative health effects of different hormonal drugs. This cannot be allowed to happen."

Last week, Switzerland Supreme court temporarily suspended the new IAAF rules pending the hearing and determination of an appeal by Semenya.

Her bid to stop IAAF from implementing the rules was rejected by Swiss-based Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), which ruled that the rules were "discriminatory" but "necessary" to ensure fairness in women's athletics.

It's rather unfortunate and sad but she should not be competing against women.
Her physical anatomy is both male and female but her hormones are male all the way.
She doesn't have a uterus and therefore no periods. She has testicles which did not drop but function just like yours and mine.
Don't remember the name of her condition but it has a scientific name.
My two cents worth.
Any comments?

Just curious to know how you came to the gory details. Did you actually see?

She was extensively examined by doctors some years back. This information was reported to the public to explain their decision to ban her from competing as a woman.
No.
I did not examine her. I would however been glad to check her out if offered the honor.

True! I think it's unfair for this guy to compete against the weaker sex knowing very well that he's got balls & recently impregnated his wife! You can almost hear him chuckle as he races past the poor girls on the tracks! Why don't they use a sharpshooter to dart him with the drug while he's racing on the tracks! He!he!he!

Let us call a Spade a Spade. This is a Man, masquerading as a Woman, because of a physical defect. It is unfair to other women, to let her compete as a woman. My thoughts, anyway.

@mwangi Kiratu, its called hyperandrogenism. CAS court of arbitration in sports were given 2 years to come up with scientific evidence that Semenya and the like posses an advantage, and they did.Semeya can run 100 meters or any race over 1500 meters without reducing her testosterone hormones. She just ran 2000meters arare race in Paris and won. Next week she will run at Prefontain diamind league in california in 3000 meters. looks like she is preparing for another loss, since she appealed ...

It is like letting a Man, who has man-boobs, compete as Woman, because 'she' has breasts. Or a Woman who has facial hair compete as a Man, because 'he' has a beard.
