Naivas Supermarket Chairman Simon Gashwe Passes Away

Naivas Supermarkets Chairperson Simon Gashwe Mukuha has passed on.
Mukuha reportedly passed away on Monday evening while undergoing treatment at Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi, where he was admitted since Friday after suffering a stroke.
His death was confirmed by the supermarket chain’s Chief Operating Officer Willy Kimani, who said Gashwe succumbed to a heart attack.
“Mukuha has passed on Monday evening at Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi where he was undergoing treatment after suffering a heart attack,” Kimani told Daily Nation
Kimani said Gashwe’s death is a major blow to the family’s business but assured of its stability.
Gashwe is the son of the retail chain’s founder Peter Mukuha Kago and held 25 percent ownership of the multi-billion-shilling business. His brother David Kimani Mukuha also owns a 25 percent share of the giant supermarket.
Naivas witnessed tremendous growth under the stewardship of Simon Gashwe and David Kimani, who acts as the chain’s managing director. The supermarket currently runs about 50 outlets in major towns across the country.
