DV-2019 Green Card Lottery Entrants Have until Next Week (September 30th) to Check their Winning Status

Entrants in the Diversity Visa 2019 (Green Card Lottery) program have until Monday, September 30th to check the status of their entries on the US State Department’s Electronic Diversity Visa Lottery website.

DV-2019 is for those who submitted their entries during the October 18, 2017 to November 2nd, 2017 registration period.

Anyone who submitted an entry during this registration period and won but fails to check their winning status by September 30th will be out of luck, as the only way to confirm if you won is through the web portal. After September 30th the DV-2019 portal will no longer be available.

Those who participated in DV-2020 have until September 30th, 2020.

Meanwhile, the US State Department announced that this year’s registration period (for DV-2021) will run between Tuesday, October 5th, 2019 and Tuesday, November 5th, 2019 (READ: Registration Period for the 2021 Diversity Visa Program Begins October 2nd, 2019).

New for DV-2021, all primary entrants will be required to have a valid, unexpired passport to participate in the lottery (READ: Requirements to Participate in the DV-2021 Diversity Visa Program).

Hi Asaah, if you can’t afford a passport at this moment, it unfortunately seems like you won’t be able to participate in the Green Card lottery this time. Remember that the Green Card Lottery in fact is a lottery and not a human rights things. So I am pretty sure you won’t have much say in this even if they decided to change the rules “last minute”. If you want to participate in the lottery, you most likely have to follow the rules and go get yourself a passport.

Please i would like to know if the passport that one used to regíster will expire before the results are out. Will the person be disqualified if he or she won?

Henry, the rules are not to prevent anyone from applying. You would still need a valid passport if you won as you would be traveling to a foreign country and they need a place to stick your visa. A valid passport is a must. In my opinion This new rule is to prevent any time wasters/ or winners who get chosen and don't have a valid passport from taking away the opportunity from an applicant who had a valid passport and wasn't chosen. Remember it's a lottery so selection is done automatically and not manually.

You are not right. The requirement of passport is to reduce fraud. Some people have been applying green card for people without their knowledge and if you win they would ask you for money before releasing it to you.

I thought this was among the first things President Trump terminated stating that this is a SCAM. And hard working people around the world should not be given false hope.

Jamal, yes you can apply as you still have a valid passport during the application window of Oct 2nd and Nov 5th. But you have to renew it as soon as possible because if you are selected you can not travel if it's expired.

Hi, this is Janet from Jordan, regarding passport validation, Please i would like to know if the passport that one used to regíster will expire before the results are out. Will the person be disqualified if he or she won?? Much appreciated Best Janet 😊

No you will not be disqualified as you had a valid passport when you first applied. But you will not get the visa and be allowed to travel until you renew the passport. You can not travel with an expired passport. The application window is approaching so you may not get a new passport on time, so apply with what you have and renew it as soon as possible.
