Martha Karua Warns Uhuru against Extending His Stay in Power
Nark-Kenya leader Martha Karua has warned President Kenyatta against the alleged plans to extend his stay in power beyond 2022.
Karua said the proposal to have Kenyatta serve as Kenya’s Prime Minister after 2022 is unconstitutional, noting that the two-term limit set by the 2010 Constitution was meant to ensure no leader stays in power for more than ten years.
“As a good friend, I am telling the president to not be tempted to preside over an unconstitutional post. Finish your term and let somebody else take the mantle,” Karua said.
Karua spoke at a women's conference in Nairobi that brought together more than 200 leaders including MPs, Senators, MCAs, and student leaders.
During a recent meeting with leaders from the Mt. Kenya region, President Kenyatta said he would not mind serving Kenya as a PM.
“I do not know the contents of the BBI report yet. I hear people claiming Uhuru Kenyatta wants to become the prime minister of Kenya. I wouldn’t mind being in leadership in such a post, though let us deal with the current situation first,” Kenyatta said.
Karua, who ran for president in 2013, also hinted at making another attempt at the country’s top seat in the next elections.
“I have heard people saying that I will deputize someone but I want to tell them my middle name is not deputy and there is no seat reserved for specific people,” said Karua.
Other leaders who attended the conference are Nairobi Speaker Beatrice Elachi, former Nairobi Woman Rep. Rachael Shebesh, former nominated senator Zipporah Kittony, Naivasha MP Jane Kihara, Registrar of Political Parties Anne Nderitu, and Kisumu Woman Representative Rosa Akinyi among others.

Martha Karua has a problem with Uhuru, because she believes that because of her activism, she was supposed to take over the mantle from Mwai Kibaki, as the Mt Kenya Kingpin. And she was 'cheated out' of this effort by a 'greenhorn' in politics, ie, Uhuru. To her, it does not matter that people actually chose Uhuru over her, or that the people of Kirinyaga chose Waiguru, over her. News flash, Martha. You cannot lead people, wapende, wasipende. People don't adjust to what you want, so that you can lead them. You adjust to what they want, to become their leader.

Martha Karua has sued Mumbi all the way to the High Court in an attempt to regain political power, right? And how come now she is advising Uhuru to stay out of power? Martha - does it really make any sense for you to tell others to abandon power while you are spending all your financial net worth to regain power? Her gods must be very crazy!
