Nairobi MCAs Plot Governor Sonko’s Impeachment

Members of the Nairobi County Assembly on Saturday held a meeting to discuss the way forward after Governor Mike Sonko was barred from accessing his office over graft charges.
During the meeting, MCAs from both Jubilee and the opposition agreed to convene a special sitting where an impeachment motion against Sonko could be tabled, Daily Nation reported.
“Sonko’s problem is neither Nairobi’s nor the county assembly’s even though some Jubilee MCAs want it to be so,” Minority Whip Peter Imwatok said.
“We are not going to pamper Sonko like a baby to the detriment of the county just because we want to make him happy,” he added.
Imwatok said a letter requesting for a special sitting had already been sent to County Assembly Speaker Beatrice Elachi with MCAs planning to begin collecting signatures for the impeachment motion next week.
“We have no choice but to impeach Sonko, we can’t suffer for someone else’s sins,” Embakasi MCA Michael Ogada said.
Jubilee MCAs were on Saturday expected to hold a separate meeting in Nairobi to discuss the Governor Sonko’s ouster from office.
Sonko, who is accused of misappropriating taxpayers’ cash amounting to Sh357, was released on a cash bail of Sh15 million after denying over 10 graft-related charges. The court barred him from accessing his office until the case is heard and determined.

You need to impeach him as early as yesterday! He says there no power vacuum because he can work at home - please Mbuvi, you can talk to the palm of my hand if english is that difficult to understand. You have been barred from executing your responsibilities as a governor; and have been ordered not to show up at work or communicate with your old staff. Your goose is fully cooked and all we are waiting for is to eat it! Those who voted for you have learned a huge lesson in regard to voting for a thief.
