Kenyans Say No to Anal Swab COVID-19 Testing

Kenyans have rejected the anal swab COVID-19 testing that was recently introduced in China.

An anal swab test involves inserting a cotton-tipped swab about 3-5 centimeters into the rectum, which is then taken to a laboratory to be tested for COVID-19. The sample is analyzed in the same way as the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) COVID-19 tests taken from the nose or throat.

A study showed that coronavirus lasts longer in the anus or faeces than in the respiratory tract, making an anal swab test a more efficient way of identifying the disease in mild or asymptomatic cases.

Ahmed Khalebi, a pathologist working with Lancet Kenya, says it is easier to detect COVID-19 using the anal swab than through the nasal swab.

“If someone has COVID-19, it can be found in the stool and the anus, we can pick the genetic material, the whole point of testing with the anal swab is that you can pick the viral RNA which is there for a longer time compared to the respiratory tract where it stays for a shorter period,” Dr. Khalebi told Citizen TV.

The testing method has been a center of conversation among Kenyans on social media, with many expressing their distaste with the test.

Mbithi Musau said: “Some things are irrational, to say the least. This is not welcome here in Kenya because it erodes your dignity and privacy.”

Veronicah Kigo noted: “I can’t even picture myself taking such a test. How or where do I begin? For me and my family, it is a big NO!”

@Deputy_Hockey tweeted: “Listen...I don’t know if this is some kind of sick prank or misinformation or what but I swear on God if butt swabs become the new regular testing method for COVID I will NEVER get tested again.”

By the time the virus travels to one's colon, the patient will either be cured or dead. Seems the Chinaman purpose is only to see the African butt hole. Don't go there; African butt is sacred. Concentrate on the nose.

This negative reaction is certainly expected. And such attitudes are usually borne of ignorance. This test is not directed at africans.
In the name of science, please let's look at this through scientific lense. We should not be quick to discount this testing method should it scientifically prove to be the best.
By the way, what has privacy got to do with this?.People are not going to line up naked...(if that's your fear, then Iam with you) Folks we are trying to contain a deadly disease virus here.
Its well and good to criticize in the comfort of our healthy bodies.Leave this to the scientific community. However,Iam glad that it elicits healthy, and interllectual conversations.Such as.WHy are we shamed of our bodies, especially certain parts.Trust me its not natural.

At Maxiley, Are we to trust those who dehumanized our forefathers inorder to enslave them? Kenyan's, we must recall our history with the slave masters otherwise history is bound to repeat itself.
Yes. As human beings parts of our bodies are private and must remain so to retain our dignity.
Physical abuse and rape are some of the dehumanizing tactics that were used by colonizers inorder to enslave africans.
In the name of Covid-19, they will dehumanize Africans inorder to enslave them.
According to Frederick Douglas, when slave owners don't see their slaves as human, it is easier to treat them in a violent manner (like kicking a dog or much worse)
You need to dehumanize a person inorder to enslave them. The slave owners too must put away all moral feelings when having slaves because there is no way the people would have the conscience to do what they do to slaves.
Kenyan's, you must not loose your dignity over Covid-19./ Science.
Do tests but maintain respect and dignity otherwise take your tests elsewhere!!!

@ AnonymousUI,I totally I agree with you on what you have said. My point is weighted heavily on science.Ignorance was abig factor in slavery.Science has told us we are one human race.No difference between awhite man and a black man biologically.Culturally ofcourse, which is just asocial construct. Those who reject this scientific truths are being dishonest, and for some reason intent on furthering falsehood for their own selfish reasons.
I treat this "anal test"as going to adoctor for my own health.
Nothing in the article talks about dehumanizing anyone. Besides that, the medical community would not stand for that.
we are one human family.

@Maxiley, let's check your statement that " we are one human family" ...easier said than done.
Tuskegee, a mostly Black city where the government once used unsuspecting African American men as guinea pigs in a study of sexually transmitted disease.
The Tuskegee study of Untreated Syphilis in the Negro Male, was an unethical natural history study conducted between 1932 and 1972 (40 years) by the United States of America Public Health Service and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
For your information, this was Science
Was this one human family? Or was it dehumanizing blacks?
"Anal test" could be a masters way of practicing and experimenting homosexuality on Africans.
Kenyan's and Africans beware of Covid-19 being turned into something else.
I don't know who can trust the master after 400 years of slavery.
The scars and the pain of slavery is still alive and well!!

Evils of the past cannot be ignored. But we cannot keep dwelling on the past.Yes mistakes were made, and corrections should be made.Science is helping all humanity. And it continues to reveal how similar we are.
Certainly you cannot argue that we are ahuman race are doing much better.
Talking of slavery, africans themselves were selling their own people. And in Kenya we still have tribal conflicts.Man is brutal by nature I guess. But our desire to work together in the hope of making abetter world starts with each and everyone of us.
I guess we will agree to disagree. So long as we do it in a respectful and interlectual way with open minds,i call this progress in human family relations.

@Maxileym, the apologists of the maafa that our brethren suffered under the racial slavery always jump at the tired and irrational defense; Africans sold their own people. A good many slaves were obtained as a result of European slave raids, kidnaps and Caucasian engineered and sponsored civil wars to source slaves. Granted; even if only one slave was sold by the African, there was a brother selling brother type of transaction. But what is extremely unconscionable is the heavy handedness and the misery that become the reality of the enslaved African in the hands of Esau. You should bear in mind that if a dog is sold to its new owner and the dog suffers untold brutality, violence, misery and unparalleled pain and anguish at its new home-definitely, that is as a result of the evil, cruelty and the wickedness of the new owner and not the person who sold the dog. The African slave was afflicted, tortured, raped and lynched not in Africa but in the land of Esau- and yes, we are not all the same! Do your research.

@ Mugaathe, you raise a very significant point that get lost when the blame game plays out.And that is who treated who badly. If these africans slaves on reaching the american shores where treated with dignity, and brotherhood ,we would not be talking of the bitter past.Even in Kenya, if the colonialists came with open hands with a desire to work, and treat africans as equals, our history, and current status would be totally different. I dare say very rich in every way.
When you say you are not the same, I get it. You do your research too.You will find out that we are similar as human beings. That is scientifically speaking. Hey , monkeys are 98% close to us. They are our cousins. But when it comes to socially constructed norms that oppress others,it is just a matter of power, and that can happen to any people, white, yellow, black. Its a human trait.

It was better if we heard from jambazi/shoga/mukunduman Kirubi’s two male wives. He must have tested them by now.

Sorry my question will be is transmission possible by same route population need to be enlightened ...and then if someone releases air from that route and you inhale will you catch the virus..since it is airborne..two dumb questions though.

The anal swab is sweeter and less annoying than that pointy nasal swab. It's very 'Massagy' and calming to the weary soul and insides.

We are so quick to defend the western cultures science yet they are the ones whom for centuries have enslaved, tortured and experimented on us with various diseases ( tuskeegee syphillis study) and with any disease/outbreak there will be scripted information for the public by “health experts” so that everyone participates. We are so conditioned not to think for ourselves by the time someone actually questions their info it’s considered unlawful or conspiracy. Africa and Africans should kataa kabisa...the Africa’s rona fatalities are super low they have shocked the world sasa wanataka kui chambua vizuri with our DNA ndio watumalize round 2. Depopulation agenda ni real.
