Nark-Kenya party leader Martha Karua has weighed in on the arrest and detention of former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko.
Through Twitter on Saturday, Karua said Sonko was “welcomed, used and dumped” by people that are no better than him.
“He was welcomed, used, and dumped by people no better than him in many ways. It is a story of double standards and contempt for the law all around,” Karua tweeted.
She was reacting to a tweet by US-based Kenyan lawyer and scholar Prof. Makau Mutua, who said Sonko was to blame for his own woes.
“JAILBIRD @MikeSonko—a true hustler—forced his way into the mansion and got too comfortable at the high table. But he couldn’t learn how to properly hold a fork and a dinner knife. Nor could he close his mouth while chewing. He only has himself to blame for being ejected,” Prof. Mutua wrote.
Sonko, who was impeached as the Governor for Nairobi in December last year, has been in custody since Monday.
He was charged with multiple counts of robbery with violence, destruction of property, and assault causing actual bodily harm and will remain in custody until Tuesday when the court will make a ruling on his bail application.
It also emerged that the State is seeking to detain Sonko for 30 days pending investigations into alleged terror links.
Chief Inspector Newton Thimangu from the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU) swore an affidavit claiming to have intelligence information showing that Sonko was recruiting a militia group to disrupt the peace and stability of the nation.
“I have intelligence information that the suspect is connected to the financing of terrorism activities and he is in the advance stage of procuring arms and ammunition using a wide syndicate which is complex and sophisticated,” Thimangu’s affidavit states.

Under UHURUS DESK in state house playing with UHURUS weewee...
Please Martha, you have been, “ welcomed, used & dumped” too severally! Remember swearing in Kibaki at the middle of the night? Kindly, have a seat.
There is no difference between majambazi waKarua/waNjoka,Ruto,Wanjiru,Sonko,Uhuru,Raila,Joho,Kabogo etc.All are elite thugs who steal from hungry billionaire Kenyans. They keep on changing tunes/rhythms pretending to be enemies but share all they loot amongst themselves.Uhuru recently confirmed he is the LOOTER IN CHIEF.He also imported COVID-19 from China which makes him the leading killer in 2020 & 2021 having killed 1800 people since Feb 2020.
Ati Uhuru imported COVID from China? You are so full of ***t, literary and figuratively.
... those who live in glass houses should not throw stones... Sonko has come to learn this through the most faithful teacher... Experience!
Karua is just telling the bitter story of her own political life! Karua - you have been bought, used, dumped, bought again and then dumped for good!
Just look at the mirror near you before you start talking crap about your boyfriend Sonko! Why don’t you quick politics if it’s that bad? Again you are too old to be talking boys nonsense!
You are still trying to get back into the dirty game of politics while you know the cut throat madness that go on first hand! Spare us the grief old lady!
It’s being said in certain quarters that Sonko is being punished for chewing food with
his mouth open so to speak. Whatever happened to table manners.
Getting rid of Sonko and many others still holding high offices should be applauded by all Kenyans. Let's not start making these guy to be a heroe knowing he is not.H e has contributed very little to any meaningful discourse leave alone any development. He made his play and lost, now he is facing the consequences of his arbitrary behavior and actions.
Fred Matiangi is CS interior ministry. He is also a member of the Chinkororo militia based in Kisii.
Why is he not being charged with terrorism? Or bring a member of an organization that terrorizes people in Kisii?
Everyone knew Sonko was financing Gaza gang which is based in Nairobi.
They both need to be arrested and charged for financing militias in Kenya.
