Former Lamu MCA Turns to Hawking Food in the Streets After Losing Her Seat in 2017

Former Lamu nominated MCA Khadija Mohammed Hamid turned to vending food in the streets after losing the seat in 2017.

In a recent interview with Nation, Khadija said she ventured into the food hawking business to earn an income and help the community.

Khadija, who served as a nominated MCA from 2013 to 2017, said the business is better than being employed or being on a contract, adding that she is still interested in politics.

“After leaving the position, I started hawking food instead of seeking employment. It is better than being on contract or employed,” said Khadija.

She added: “Don’t be surprised when you see me back in parliament. I am still in politics.”

Khadija also spoke about the challenges she encountered in her new job, saying she was ridiculed as people claimed she was in financial destitution despite previously holding a lucrative political position. An MCA earns about Sh300,000 monthly.

“They look down on me but have no idea that I am making money. Every job is honorable regardless of its nature. You don’t have to work in an office, sometimes, in employment, you lose your job in an instant and you are left stranded. People undermine the type of work am doing but it pays,” she remarked.

Khadija was nominated to the Lamu County Assembly in 2013 under the ruling Jubilee Party but she lost the seat after the 2017 elections.

Under the law,you cannot be nominated to the same seat twice although Wambui Muigai Mugo was illegally re-nominated by his cousin,Muigai Kamau.Maybe Khadija could not be get another money-minting job after her gods/boyfriends dumped her after getting a “new catch”.But I congratulate her for settling to a new challenging job instead of looting like kina Murathe Gatuni,Kamanda,Tuju etc.

Nominated members of Parliament posts should be demolished. These are used to “return favors” and are not a true reflection of democracy. Will BBI resolve this or increase this now that there will be more MPIGS seeking to return favors. On a side note did you not save Mama from over 300 K a month to maybe 2K on a good day is quite a jump/fall, how did you contribute or should I say elevate your people that you deserve a second shot as an elected MP this time

Keep doing your business ex-MCA! Let those who wish to talk keeping running their dirty mouth! Politics is not a business and will not generate clean money for you! You will succeed!
