Notorious Nairobi Gangster "Kibe" Gunned Down in Shootout with Police

Detectives have gunned down a suspected criminal believed to be part of a gang that has been terrorizing Nairobi residents.

The suspect, who operates under the cover name ‘Kibe’ was shot dead at the KCC area within Nairobi’s Kariobangi estate on Saturday night.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) says detectives encountered three men while on patrol in the area and challenged them to identify themselves.

One of the men pretended to be fishing out his ID from his pocket but instead drew out his gun and opened fire. 

“Luckily, none of the bullets caught any of the officers. Officers who had taken strategic positions returned fire, fatally injuring the suspect,” the DCI said.

The other two suspects managed to escape in the darkness, with the officers recovering a Glock pistol and three bullets from the slain suspect.

The seized firearm and bullets were taken to DCI headquarters for ballistic analysis while the body of ‘Kibe’ was moved to City Mortuary awaiting proper identification.

“Kibe and his gang have been giving city residents sleepless nights,” DCI added.
