Search Begins as Trained Police Dog Goes Missing at Isiolo International Airport

Police have launched a search for a highly trained dog that went missing at Isiolo International Airport on Friday.

The Kenya Police dog of Bich Poldog species was under the watch of police officer Ronald Katana when he disappeared from the airport premises after it was briefly left unattended.

“It was reported today January 21, 2022, CMM in the morning at around 8 am that Police Constable Ronald Katana was grooming his Bich Poldog outside their K-9 kennel within the Isiolo Airport compound,” reads a police report in part.

The officer briefly went to his house located within the airport and left the dog unattended, only to find him missing when he came back.

A search for the security dog was launched immediately, with officers combing through the airport and surrounding areas. It is suspected that the Poldog passed under a chain-link wire outside the Isiolo airport compound.

Following the dog's disappearance,  an inquiry file number 1/2022 was opened and disciplinary action has been taken against the concerned officer.
