Elders Endorse Former US Military Officer Charles Matoke to Run for Kisii Governor's Seat

Former US military officer Charles Matoke has formally launched his bid for Kisii gubernatorial seat.
This comes after he received blessings and endorsement from the Abagusii council of elders and his Nyaribari clan to contest for the county’s top seat. Matoke was also installed as an elder at a ceremony held at Itibo Village in Kisii on Thursday.
Speaking during the installation ceremony, the 36-year-old former army man said he is determined to change the demographics of Kisii county politics, by proving that the youth can lead.
“I Have come to ask my people to give me the mantle to lead them, am ready to be your leader and serve you,” he said.
If elected on August 9th, Matoke says he will take the county to greater heights by working on innovation projects.
Abagusii Council of Elders chairman Naftal Ombega said traditional rituals were performed during the ceremony for nourishment and to bless Matoke as he starts his career in politics. Ombega noted that Matoke is the first aspirant from Nyaribari Masaba to show interest in the governorship.
Matoke is among over 10 candidates who are seeking to succeed Governor James Ongwae whose second and final term expires in August. Others are Manson Oyongo, Chris Obure, Simba Arati, Alfred Nyangweso, Prof. Sam Ongeri, Rachael Otundo, Joash Maangi, Janet Ong’era, and Patrick Lumumba.
