State House Says President Uhuru is Committed to Free and Fair Elections

State House has assured Kenyans that President Kenyatta is committed to free and fair elections in August.

State House spokesperson Kanze Dena on Friday said the government has laid out plans to ensure the forthcoming elections are peaceful, free and fair.

“In the forthcoming elections, the President is keen on ensuring that the polls are peaceful, free and fair as can be seen through the ongoing joint preparatory works by various government agencies,” Dena said during an interview with a local FM station.

Her sentiments come days after Deputy President William Ruto alleged that there is a plan to rig the upcoming presidential election in favor of his opponent.

The deputy president claimed that some government agencies and a clique of individuals were out to influence the outcome of the forthcoming elections.

He spoke on Tuesday at the Karson Institute for Race, Peace, and Social justice in Loyola University in Maryland during his ongoing tour of the US.

“As a leader, I have taken the position to speak against any attempts to try and straightjacket people into predetermined outcomes. We would have expected to do this without the baggage of blackmail and intimidation that is going on but unfortunately that is where we are,” said Ruto.

He added: “There is a huge pushback by citizens against any attempts to choreograph the next dispensation. We want to make our choices without being chaperoned, blackmailed or intimidated.”

Ruto, who is eyeing the presidency, appealed to the US and the international community to intervene and stop attempts to rig the August 9th presidential election.

“We are looking forward to a partnership of friends and people of goodwill. America has been a partner and a friend and has stood with us during the good and the bad times. With other members of the international community, we are looking forward to working together in that endeavor,” he said.

Is anyone here old enough to remember the Moi KANU days? Ruto uses money to influence outcomes just like Moi did. His UDA party is nothing but a reincarnation of the old KANU. Moi killed Kikuyus and so has Ruto. Moi did not support a multiparty system and Ruto does not believe in coalitions but a one strong big party like KANU was. Moi stole but Ruto is worse. Uhuru, rig the elections if you have to, we do not want another "Moi" lording over us. Not now, not ever again.
