"Shame on You": Ruto Tells Uhuru over Impeachment Claims
Deputy President William Ruto has dismissed claims that he tried to impeach President Kenyatta after the 2017 general elections.
Speaking in Malindi, Kilifi County on Sunday, Ruto termed the allegations as cheap propaganda aimed at dividing Kenyans, stating that he has never hatched such a plot.
“Ati Ruto anaweza kupindua Rais, mnagawanya wakenya for nothing, wakenya wamekataa project yenu. Ati niweke serikali ndani alafu nifanye njama ya kupinduwa serikali, you must be confusing me with your project,” DP Ruto said on Sunday.
He added: “As deputy president, I know what I must do, I will never, have never, and would never do anything that would bring down the government.”
The deputy president further noted that his competitors have resorted to spreading falsehoods after running out of ideas and realizing that their project (Raila Odinga) has failed.
“Respect those of us who campaigned for Uhuru Kenyatta, you are desperate to spread falsehoods and propaganda. I will never and have never been part of anything to bring down the government, shame on you, you deserve nothing but shame,” he added.
Ruto spoke just a day after President Kenyatta claimed that the deputy president had planned to impeach him and ascend to power through the back door.
Uhuru, who was speaking to a delegation of Kikuyu elders at State House, said this prompted him to reach out to ODM leader Raila Odinga to steady the government and ensure peace and stability.
Kenyatta pointed out that his handshake with Odinga deflated what he termed as Ruto's grand plan to sabotage his administration and ascend to power through the back door.
While describing the deputy president as an impatient leader whose sole focus is to ascend to power by all means, Uhuru told the elders that Odinga is his preferred successor and called upon them to mobilize support for the Azimio La Umoja coalition flagbearer.

We can't say for sure who is telling the truth. Uhuru is saying this while Ruto is denying. All I can say is the manner in which their relationship disintegrated there some truth on uhuru side. Both Tuju and Murathe mentioned it sometimes back. Also Ruto himself had stated before that Raila reached him first before uhuru. This means there's elements of truth.
