Nairobi County Gov’t Official Arrested for Soliciting a Sh500,000 Bribe

A Nairobi county government employee has been arrested for allegedly soliciting a Sh500,000 bribe.

Moses Munyi Joseph was apprehended by detectives from the Ethics Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on Thursday following a complaint from a city resident, who had approached over a disputed parcel of land.

Munyi serves as a superintendent in charge of Operations at Nairobi City County Investigations Department.

EACC says the complainant was seeking security for the property only for Munyi to demand Sh500,000 in return for his services.

The accuser managed to negotiate with Munyi and he agreed to reduce the amount to Sh200,000.

"The bribe was negotiated to Sh200,000 and the complainant managed to record the conversation between himself and the suspect," EACC said in a statement.

Detectives attached to the anti-graft agency laid a trap for Munyi after the complainant arranged a meeting with him at a location within Nairobi’s central business district to complete the transaction.

The officers arrested Munyi immediately after receiving part of the bribe amounting to Sh130,000.

"Upon reporting to EACC, detectives investigated the matter and conducted an operation leading to the arrest of the suspect while receiving part of the bribe amounting to Sh130,000," EACC added.

The suspect was taken to EACC headquarters at Integrity Centre where he is currently being held and interrogated.
