Kenyan sprinter Ferdinand Omanyala recorded the fastest men’s 100m in the world this year with a time of 9.85 seconds in the Kip Keino Classic held at the Moi International Sports Centre, Nairobi on Saturday.
Omanyala, 26, outpaced Olympic 100m silver medalist Fred Kerley of the United States, who finished second in 9.92 while Isaiah Young (10.13) and Hendricho Bruintjies (10.13) were third and fourth respectively.
Olympic 100m champion Marcel Jacobs of Italy was set to participate in the race but he withdrew at the last minute due to stomach illness.
Omanyala finished second in last year’s Kip Keino Classic in an African record time of 9.77 seconds, just a second behind American Trayvon Bromell.
Following Saturday’s win, Omanyala said his dream is to run 9.60 seconds this season and is eyeing three gold medals in the Africa Senior Championships scheduled for June 8th to 12th in Mauritius, where he will compete in 100m, 200m, and 4x100m.
"I promised to deliver and I did it. Bring on the Africa, World Championships and Commonwealth Games!" Omanyala told journalists. "I have an African record yes but I want titles.”
He is also targeting a podium finish at the World Championships in July in Oregon, United States, and Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England.

@ Kora Kanini, great advise for anybody who is aspiring to be some one in life. Yes,I just hope that this " celebrity hype" does not get in his head. You never know ...It largely depends on who he surrounds himself with. He has a lovely and supportive wife. I say supportive because much has been made about his wife paying for rent, while he was unemployed. For those who find that strange, ask yourself why not? Yes , i know many will say that a man should do this and that... but if she can help you ,and support you while you are building your career, that bodes well for the relationship. Dont forget that she is confident of his potential, and future earnings, otherwise she would not take that risk just for so called "love". Too risky. If he had not ambition, there is no way she would have taken that risk...Many women love to go for " ready made" life style. But the true love relationship should be judged by what you do as acouple rather than what you " earn" from the union-to benefit you individually .I say this mindful that people marry for various reasons, under the umbrella of "love".
The fellow has talent in athletics for sure, and a drive for success.Iwish him the best.
Wait you see how many hungry Kenyan women will suddenly love track and field :-), Kasarani will be the new Junction / the hub/ naifasha (intentionally mispelt). ha ha ha
Hahaha, tell me @ formerly guest2,which one is appealing to the women more, his chiseled body or the bank account...or both?
Yes for those who dont know, yes women appreciate anicely chiseled body.Just because she appears content with your extended flabby tummy because you are afinancial caretaker does not mean that she would not mind you hitting the gym...
Fame and money have ways of stroking one's ego.And when ego is stroked,"personal bounderies" may truly get tested.I trust that Omanyala has the fortitude to wardoff "bad temptations".
If you are asking me personally , huyo anaweza nivunja mwili, but probably he is a gentle giant I will go with $$$ first... ha ha haha. However the "nouveau" Kenya woman, I bet both but $$$ first priority
Comrade formerly guest 2,
It's just based on opportunities and too much social media crap.
All wants to live the Kardashian lifestyle without working.
Like we've written before, the biggest LLCS OR CORPORATIONS are based between women's legs.
I stand to be corrected.

You were spot on @ formeryguest2
Aha I knew it!
Comrade Maxiley,
As long as he uses his big head to think, he will be safe.
Overlooked that @Kora Kanini. We read alot about how much trouble the "brainless",small heads put men in to. For some reason the lessons are never learned. They cannn't be that stupid, can they?
This was Epic and glad to see Kenyans moving away from their comfort zone and venturing into shorter distances. It is all about reinventing ourselves. There is some money to be made in short distances as well. And yes Maxiley I hope he stays grounded and the "celeb" nonsense that is now Kenya does not get into his head.
Great for Kenya imagine if he excels and makes it to the Olympics or other national athletic championship not only do we take the long distance but the short distance races too. That would be a first for an African country. These Americans or Jamaicans are not as fast as they think they are it is time for new blood
Sky is the LIMIT for you BROTHER..
But be careful of haters and folks who want bring you down.
Bro; remember one simple step in life, humble yourself. No matter how much you are going to make, no matter all the hype on social media, humble yourself..and you will get to the HIGHEST points in life.
