IEBC Gazettes Names of 28 Independent Presidential Candidates

Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on Wednesday gazette the names of 38 independent candidates who submitted their symbols and expressed intention to vie for the presidency in the August 9th elections.

They include three-time presidential candidate Nazlin Umar, gospel singer Reuben Kigame, former Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) officer Nick Kukubo, who unsuccessfully contested the last two presidential elections, and Muthiora Kariara, who ran as Japhet Kavinga Kaluyu’s running mate in the 2017 election.

The candidates are now required to present themselves to IEBC Chairperson Wafula Chebukati, who is the Returning Officer for the presidential election, to have their nominations scrutinized.

They must also submit the requisite documents to IEBC on or before May 23rd ahead of the clearance process which will take place between May 29th and June 6th.

The requisite documents include a clearance certificate from the Registrar of Political Parties certifying that the candidate was not a member of any political party three months before the elections, an electronic version and the duly filled list of at least 2000 supporters in majority counties.

I fail to understand what these people are looking for. People you have never heard of. They know they will not get ever 1000 votes.

@Kenya you fail to understand because you are failure. It’s not a popularity contest. I’m sure one of them would make a better president than the well known candidates.

11. A message that resonates with parents, free education till university.
12. A message for the business community, creating two financial institutions to support business, the Kenya guarantee fund; and the Kenyan export import bank, both institutions to offer 100% cost financing for contracts won locally and outside Kenya respectively.
13. A team of youth, below 40, bringing new change.
14. A new way of government appointments, with senior civil service, boards, ceos, directors, to be appointed on basis of equality of 47 tribes, including Kenyan Indians, Kenyan Europeans, and Kenyan arabs.
