EACC Goes After Government Officials with Fake Academic Papers

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) says it is pursuing public officials with fake academic documents in a bid to recover the salaries they earned using the papers.

On Tuesday, the anti-graft agency said there are many people who have used forged academic documents to secure employment in the public service or get promoted to senior positions.

“Forgery of academic certificates has become prevalent in the public service. This is not only a crime but also a violation of Chapter Six of the Constitution,” EACC said in a statement.

The anti-graft watchdog further noted that it is currently investigating unnamed individuals and will require them to refund the public the money they have earned through fake documents.

“EACC is investigating suspected public officials and will seek to recover salaries earned on fake academic qualification,” the agency added.

Last week, two Kenyan women were sentenced to jail after they were found guilty of forging academic documents and using them to secure employment in a government agency.

The two, Pauline Otieno and Lilian Ochieng worked as supplies assistants at the Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation in 2018.

They were charged with five counts including forgery, providing false information to a public entity, deceiving a public entity, uttering a false document, and fraudulent acquisition of public property being the cumulative salary earned on forged certificates

Pauline was convicted and jailed for two years and six months or pay a Sh228,698 fine while Lillian was jailed for three years and six months or pay a Sh271,901 fine.

Pauline was found to have forged a procurement certificate from Mount Kenya University (MKU) while Lilian forged both a diploma and certificate from the Kenya Institute of Management (KIM).

The court heard that the two worked in the State corporation for eight years as casual employees before forging the documents for their promotion to Supplies Assistants.

EACC should start with all the politicians in kenya having their academic documents verified. The second group to be investigated are illiterate lawyers and judges who seems incapable of making sound legal decisions when it comes academic qualifications required for a politician to run for whatever office.

Finally, kenyans should elect Wajackoyah who is willing to execute those who forge papers, thieves, and conmen across the country.

So, they are many in the government??? No wonder the job rarely gets done, because many don't have a cue of what they are assigned to do.

EACC should start with Raila who is seeking the highest political position in the land.
Where are his degrees?
If the government has jailed or fined one Kenyan citizen, it must apply the "law of just weights" to all.
When all citizens are questioning Raila's academic qualifications but everyone is just keeping quiet on this one.

If they did what hey were supposed to do whats the problem? Why not fine those who hired them without verifying documents? What a waste of public resources.

Are the judges not lying that iebc do not have the mechanism to verify degrees. I would start by firing the judiciary for incompetence and declare martial law throughout the country. Then all the thieves would be hang, and those with stolen degree certificates would have both hands cut off.

Eacc can and need to do more to reclaim public property that have benefited just a few elements in society namely the greedy politicians.

Well apparently fake documents are prevalent because they yield results. It is also unfortunate that this goes for all types of documents. We have seen people fake Covid 19 certficates, death certificates, birth certificates. And taking of fake birth certificates, Iam reminded of Kenya youth football being kicked out of the tournament due to fielding over age players who had faked their ages.Kenyan athletes have been known to fake birth certificates to appear younger than they truly are. This brings me to the 800 Meter runner Emmanuel Wanyonyi, he is listed at 17 years old.But if he missed school or dropped out for 7 years, how old was he when dropped out? Let's say he dropped out at 8 that makes him 15 when he resumes his schooling. What class is he anyway?. Iam not suggesting that he is an age cheat, but Iam curious?Any answers?
