Sonko Wants President Ruto to Fire Uhuru as Kenya’s Peace Envoy

Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has urged President Ruto to fire his predecessor Uhuru Kenyatta as Kenya’s peace envoy.

Speaking during an interdenominational thanksgiving service in Nakuru on Sunday, Sonko claimed Uhuru continues to disrespect and undermine Ruto despite being validly elected as the country’s fifth president.

“Because you are a forgiving person you gave him (Uhuru) a job as a DRC peace envoy. If he continues disrespecting you, fire him,” Sonko said.

Sonko, who was removed from office in 2020 through impeachment, urged Ruto not to tolerate any form of disrespect and punish those who undermine him, including Uhuru and Azimio leader Raila Odinga.

“The church advises us against revenge but, sometimes, revenge is a good lesson,” he added.

He said Ruto should consider repealing the law to jail those who “disrespect” him just like what happened to former South African president Jacob Zuma.

Sonko also downplayed the ongoing public rallies led by Odinga, saying the Azimio leader has used similar tactics in the past for his own benefit.

Ruto named Kenyatta as Kenya’s peace envoy to the Horn of Africa and the Great Lakes region during his inauguration last September.

Ruto said Kenyatta will be in charge of the peace initiatives that Kenya has been undertaking across the region, saying his predecessor has been instrumental in steering peace initiatives, especially in neighboring Ethiopia.

How can Uhuru be a peace negotiator outside when he is flaring instability in his own country? For a period as long as four years, he was unable to resolve the differences between himself and his Deputy. He is a wrong candidate for the job.
It’s equally the same thing with Raila. Africas envoy for infrastructure and development. He is in the front line trying to sabotage his own country’s development and infrastructure. He has told his supporters to take the government loan and not payback.
