I've Been Offered Sh200 Million to Drop Finance Act petition – Omtatah

Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah has now claimed that he has been offered Sh200 million to withdraw his petition against the Finance Act 2023.

He made the statement at the People's Anti-Corruption Summit held at Ufungamano House in Nairobi on Tuesday, July 11. Omtatah is determined to see the Constitution's principles upheld, arguing that the Act is in violation of them. One of his objections is that the Act does not specify who an employer is for the purpose of benefitting from the deductions.

"Sometimes we get anonymous calls with people saying bullets are not over in Kenya but those are threats and unnecessary temptations we must overcome. We do not have another country other than this one where you can be a citizen so let us not lose it," he said.

The High Court recently declined to lift the stay on the implementation of the Act, making it impossible to be put into effect. The senator also asserted that the government had lied about the cost of constructing the Standard Gauge Railway. This is one of the projects initiated by the Jubilee administration to spur economic growth.

The Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) project cost the Kenyan government around $3.2 billion (Sh360 billion, or Sh419.84 billion at the current exchange rate), which was mostly borrowed from the Chinese Exim Bank in May 2014. It was intended to provide express cargo transportation from Mombasa to Nairobi as well as passenger services with various inter-county service stations.

On Tuesday, the activist-cum-politician argued that the government is not transparent about the cost of the project. This is not the first time Mr Omtatah has asserted that Kenyans are paying for loans their government never took. During a radio interview on June 7th, he insisted that Kenyans have forked out over Sh1 trillion more than their debt obligation.

Not sure if he is joking or not.But how could he make such an assertion before Anti Corruption team without them putting him to task, and' forcing' him to name the culprits.I would also think that addressing the Anti-Corruption summit there would be at least one or two recordings of what he said.
Anyway, I personally think that he is joking. Sh.200 mil is not chump change for just withdrawing a petition. But again Omtatah could be sanctimoniouly gifted.

I agree with you @Maxiley except that time for jokes is over. Omatata should be compelled to name KSH 200Mil bribe guy so he can be delt with. But of serious concern to me is that these demos may be pushing some of the youths past their stress capacity and something might go down. We may end up with a splinter group that might blame Raila for going too slow or not doing enough. Already, a good number of jobless hungry youth have been repeatedly told that Ruto is the enemy, that his government is illegitimate, the high cost living is of Ruto's making. In other word, but for Ruto, unga and many other necessaries would be affordable. And that is how a splinter group can crop up. That is how home grown terrorists are born. Home grown terrorists are born of frustartions, fake hope and impatience. They want their price now! If we get there, not even Raila would be able to control it. As a matter of fact, they would be tellikng Raila what to do and when to do it. Unfortunately, that may be what these demos are manufacturing.
And that will be our nightmare! God forbid.

An independent commission should be initiated into finding out whether Brother Okiya Omtatah’s allegedly statement is false or authentic.

OUTCOME OF THE INVESTIGATION

If his allegations are proven true, the entire corrupt government of UDA under Brother X Samoei should be forced to resign.

We are sick and tired of being governed by extremely corrupt, incompetent, and unaccountable government.

Where is the attorney general of Kenya? Is he serving an individual (Samoei) or the people of Kenya?
