Why Affordable Housing Project is a Scam - UDA Senator

Marsabit Senator Chute Mohamed has raised doubts about the true intentions of the Affordable Housing Program despite Kenyans contributing 1.5 per cent of their earnings to the Housing Fund.
During his speech at the Assembly on Thursday, Chute, who concurrently serves on the Parliamentary Committee on Roads and Housing, sought to challenge the government's rationale in generously providing free lands for the program, only to release the final product to Kenyans at astronomical rates. In a statement, he dubbed the Affordable Housing program as an illusionary tactic. Chute further admitted he was at a loss as to the logic applied by the government which distributes state-owned parcels to individuals who then build properties that are unaffordable and priced for commercial gain
The Senator spoke out about the concerns raised by Mombasa residents through submitted petitions. Despite being granted land for these projects, the developments are not affordable prompting accusations of dishonesty. Directly addressing the President, the Senator dubbed the projects as attempts to fleece the country of its resources. The UDA Senator raised concerns about the lack of transparency and fairness in the deal, lamenting that only one tender was released for the land.
He also criticized the disproportionate distribution of profits, with the developer receiving 90 per cent and the landowners only receiving 10 per cent. Additionally, he noted that the selling price of the completed housing project is significantly higher than the market value, which may make it difficult for people to afford. Overall, he questioned the motives behind the project and whether it was truly designed to benefit the local community.
The cornerstone of President Ruto's housing project is to provide decent housing and employment to Kenyans while also ensuring steady economic growth. Ruto believes that the housing initiative will lead to homeownership for all Kenyans if implemented as planned.
