Mystery Surrounds Death of Kenyan Innovator in the US as Family Battles for Sh500 Million Estate

In a story fraught with intrigue, William Alfred Mulwa Mutilangi, a highly accomplished Kenyan who rose from a humble village in Masii, Machakos County, to become a top innovator at Pepsi, met an untimely demise in the United States.

The brilliant mind, credited with a recent groundbreaking invention at Pepsi, passed away under suspicious circumstances, leading to a heated battle over his vast estate. Mulwa, a first-class honours graduate in Food Science from the University of Nairobi, left Kenya over four decades ago in pursuit of opportunities in the U.S. Throughout his illustrious career, he achieved the remarkable feat of obtaining a patent for an innovative technique to enhance the texture of sugar-free drinks, a collaborative endeavour with Khushal Brijwani.

On October 10, 2023, two individuals, one claiming to be Mulwa's sister Mary Mutilangi and the other as Peter Githinji, took the 67-year-old to the North Westchester Restorative Therapy and Nursing Centre in New York. However, it was later discovered that the real Mary Mutilangi was far away in Masii. This revelation raised suspicions among Mulwa's family members as they questioned the identities presented to the hospital staff. Mulwa's death certificate states that he died from cardiac arrest caused by difficulty breathing due to prostate cancer. This further fuels the family's concerns as they believe foul play may have been involved. Their worries are intensified by the actions of Bakari Kisalu Malanda, a Tanzanian national who claims to be Mulwa's son and has intentions of seizing his estate.

According to Mary Mutilangi, her brother had expressed his desire to retire and return to Kenya, eager to savour the wealth he had accumulated over the years. She discloses Mulwa's plans to acquire livestock and find a wife upon his return to Masii. According to the family, Mulwa was not married and did not have any children from previous relationships. Despite being wealthy, Mulwa had a minimal online presence and there is limited information available about him apart from his achievements at Pepsi and academic publications. The family has lodged complaints with the State Department of Diaspora Affairs, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kenya, and the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) in the United States.

The controversy extends to Mulwa's assets, including ten houses in Nairobi, Kiambu, and Machakos valued at approximately Sh200 million. Malanda's claim as the legal heir, supported by a questionable power of attorney, has intensified the legal battle over the estate. The Mulwa family's lawyer in the United States, Japheth Matemu, has confirmed that the FBI is currently conducting a preliminary inquiry to seek justice. The family asserts that the power of attorney, granted to Githinji by Kahuthu & K Advocates, does not meet professional standards, leading to calls for an investigation by the Law Society of Kenya.

The Kenyan Embassy in Washington DC, acting on behalf of the Foreign Affairs Ministry, has engaged with Githinji, the funeral home, and Pepsi. However, Githinji claims to be unfamiliar with Malanda, and both he and Pepsi point to legal restrictions preventing them from sharing information. While the family waits for justice, the circumstances surrounding Mulwa's death are slowly being uncovered, exposing a complex network of lies, legal tactics, and an estate valued at a minimum of Sh500 million. The responsibility of uncovering the truth and ensuring rightful inheritance now lies in the hands of investigators in Kenya and the U.S., while Mulwa's legacy remains enigmatic.

One other very portent fact to observe is whether William Afred Mulwa Mutilangi had life insurance and whether anyone has come forward to claim it. His properties in USA and his savings interferences after his death and any credit cards use after his death are if paramount importance.

Well @pppian, the Kikuyus do not kill as much as you Kalenjins kill. Y’all kill and stuff the corps into maize silos to eat the rotten carcass along with the maize. Didn’t one of your own kill Yebei, Mwikali, Jacob Juma, Kinei, etc and stuffed them in a freeze for you to eat them with Mursik? Shenzi wewe kabisa!

Sorry to hear this possible homicide. Painful to blood family. Now having no kids and possibly no will or heir, as he exits earth and leaving behind 4-10m USD this guy didn't lose anything really. Hopefully he left a will.

My crystal ball tells me that Githinji is a possible suspect in this succession crime. Githinji and his criminal Kikuyu lawyer.

The man died Ina hospital for goodness sake. Get an autopsy and accept the reality. Chances are hi health situation was not very good given the reasons given for his death.

Second, all parties that believe have a claim to the man's properties need to be given a chance to make their claim and present their justification of why they are making the claim. Even the banks and any other creditors can make their claims.
Thir, having a wife, being married or not does not mean than he never had any children. The only way to find out is to fund out through his close acquitances or check his phone or other communit or social media records.
Fourth, the fily in Kenya can also make a claim of the man's property and his body based on what information they have and after ofgicial reviewing the application they will be able to get what is duly theirs and what is not will be passed on to the other claimants.

What you have is very preliminary in such matters. It's still too early to start clamouring for inheritence,in my opinion. As for the"son", thanks to DNA,that should settle paternity unless the child claim he was adopted.
But your opinion is well taken. The truth will come out, especially with FBI involved.

they need to establish if this thug is the son, which is not the case. they can use DNA from williams brother, and results would be almost 99% accurate. to all those involved...know that there is fire on the mountain!!!

He did not die in a regular hospital! He died in a rehabilitation and nursing facility, a big difference. Do you know that certain types of deliberately induced poisoning can lead to slow death and one way to conceal such evidence is to cremate? For example arsenic poisoning can be detected through exhumation but not when a victim has been cremated. There is no need to scour social media, a DNA test using his siblings should have a degree of matching with his "son" if the claims he makes are true. Did they have a co-conspirator in the rehab facility? If so, did that co-conspirator facilitate a medically determined cause of death thus negating the need for a proper and complete autopsy? Did the "son" object to such an autopsy? Why did Githinji's co-conspirator impersonate his sister who was in Kenya at the time of admission to the rehab facility? Do you know Githinji was previously arrested and charged for a violent felony? Why would the Tanzanian "son" provide the wrong name of his "father" and indicate bachelors degree instead of Phd for the death certificate? Why has the son refused or failed to meet DCI investigators in Kenya? Too many questions. Why did Ndambuki claim to have know the family for decades when they have never heard of him and suddenly get cold feet when asked about Githinji and the son yet he was the one relaying messages from them? Where there is plenty of smoke, there is likely a raging fire. On claims against his estate, that is contestable in court, claims are not the same as inheritances. The irregularities and suspicious behaviors of third parties and collaborators is what needs to be thoroughly investigated.

the courts need to prove the thug is his son. use DNA from williams brother. if he is, the dna result will be almost 99%. They all need to know there is fire on the mountain and start checking out which jail to go. May William rest in eternal peace
