Genuine Affair? Oparanya Responds to Viral Photo Scandal

The circulation of photographs featuring former Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya and a woman identified as Mary Biketi has sparked speculation in social media.

Oparanya has confirmed the innocence of these images which depict a seemingly affectionate rapport between him and Mary Biketi. However, he remains perplexed as to why someone would opt to share them with the public. In a video posted on Facebook, the veteran Luhya politician addresses the matter head-on, acknowledging the genuine nature of the photographs while asserting that they were captured in a decent context. He expresses his perplexity over the intense public interest in scrutinizing these images, which he deems innocent.

"I have seen someone circulating genuine photos. I don't know why someone would waste time circulating them. It is very unfortunate that wherever I took those photos they leaked them to the press. Those are very decent photos and I don't know the interest that people have when you have taken photos with a loved one," he says.

Oparanya, who is currently in Mombasa, has taken the opportunity to dispel rumours regarding his marital status. While confirming that he has two publicly known wives, he does not deny the possibility of additional spouses as speculation suggests. However, he vehemently refutes any insinuation of an illicit affair with Mary Biketi emphasizing that the photographs do not depict any scandalous behaviour. Furthermore, the former governor denies claims that he had been hospitalized, asserting that such false news adversely affects his large family.
