Kenya’s Joyciline Jepkosgei on Saturday broke the world record in winning the women Half Marathon at the Prague Half Marathon in the Czech Republic.

Jepkosgei, 23, broke the record after finishing in 1:04:52, breaking the previous record of 1:05:06 set only three weeks ago by fellow Kenyan Peres Jepchirchir in the UAE.

"I didn't know I would break the world record today. only wanted to improve my time. This is a surprise for me. The conditions were good for me because I'm used to training at this time of day, in the morning,” said Jepkosgei after breaking the record.

Violah Jepchumba and Fancy Chemutai capped a 1-2-3 finish for Kenya in the women’s race after finishing second and third respectively.

The men’s race was won by Tamara Tola of Ethiopia, with Kenya’s Josphat Kimutai Tanui and Geoffrey Yegon finishing second and third respectively.
