MP Reveals NASA's Plan to Stage Demos on Elections Day

John Wanjohi Oct 15, 2017

Suna East Member of Parliament Junet Mohamed has revealed plans by opposition National Super Alliance (NASA) to stage a nationwide demonstration during October 26th voting day.

Speaking in Nairobi's Kibra area, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) MP said the alliance would mobilize its supporters countrywide to demonstrate on the day scheduled for the fresh election to demand for reforms in the electoral commission.

"On 26th October it will be the climax of the protests, on that day, we will crown the demos," Junet stated.

Junet further condemned killings by police witnessed in recent anti-IEBC demos by opposition supporters, saying that there were deliberate attempts to eliminate their supporters.

“There are goons and mercenaries hired by the State to commit various atrocities against the NASA supporters, Are the people who were killed not Kenyans? This is totally unacceptable,” Mohammed noted.

His sentiments were echoed by Siaya senator James Orengo, who said that the use of excessive force by police during the protests was unacceptable.

“There is a determination to turn Luo land into the Biafra or Kosovo of Kenya. You do not need to kill more than 100 people to classify the police actions as genocide against civilians. Article 6 and 7 of the International Crimes Act is clear, you cannot kill people advancing different agenda,” Orengo stated.

Orengo added: "If the brutality against our people continues, we will not sit back and see our people being butchered. We will take action that will ensure the self-defense of our people against a marauding State,” Orengo cautioned.

The Nasa leaders vowed their anti-IEBC demos will continue despite attempts by the regime to frustrate them.
