Kenya Airways (KQ) has announced that more than 7,000 passengers have booked the airline's nonstop flights to the United States ahead of the launch scheduled for October 28th.
The airline disclosed the news during a dinner hosted by KQ at Rockefeller Plaza in New York, United States on Sunday. President Kenyatta, who is in New York for the 73rd session of United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), attended the dinner.
“On behalf of the Kenyan people, I thank the US government for working closely with us to make this realisation (Direct flights)” said the President.
Speaking at the event, Kenya Airways chairman Michael Joseph and the Chief Executive Officer Sebastian Mikosz thanked Kenyatta for his support during the airline's bid to fly directly to New York.
The direct flights between Nairobi and JFK International Airport in New York are expected to boost trade between Kenya and the US. Kenya also looks to double the number of US tourists visiting the country.
The national carrier becomes the first airline to operate non-stop flights between East Africa and the US.
KQ has set aside two Dreamliner planes for the daily flights to US — a night flight from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) and a mid-day one from New York.
The aircraft will carry 234 passengers; 30 at the premium world class and 204 in the economy section. It will have four pilots, 12 flight attendants and 85 tonnes of fuel loaded one way.

So uhuruto hires Russian bots now too? Impressive
For those pressed for time, this is a good deal. As for me, i will continue to have a layover in Amsterdam. It is far way cheaper than the direct flight.
Thanks but No thanks....KLM ndege niipendayo
Ju ni ya mzungu or ju it doesn't run the risk of running out of fuel midflight?

Ethiopian Airline (ET) has been flying direct flights from DC to Addis, though they cannot fly from Addis to DC. KQ could have done same many years ago, but requires high end management but the airline still lucks.
Kenya is moving forward. All those negative minds on this forum better rethink your positions and begin supporting development. Negativity will only will only mask your vision of our Kenya and drag you backwards. Keep up with the times and you will not be left behind.
