Safaricom Introduces Non-Expiry Data, Voice and SMS Packages

As it marks its 19th anniversary, Safaricom has introduced non-expiry data, voice and SMS packages for its customers.

On Wednesday, the giant telecommunications operator unveiled the changes in a new system dubbed ‘Simple. Transparent. Honest.’

“We have reviewed all of our products and services, looked at the many customer touchpoints, and examined the customer feedback surveys, good and bad, about how we serve you. Today we are making a commitment to being simple, transparent and honest,” acting Safaricom CEO Michael Joseph said.

The roll-out of data, voice and SMS packages without expiry comes a day after Nairobi-based lawyer Adrian Kamotho sued Safaricom and other mobile service providers accusing them of irregularly depriving consumers of their unused data bundles.

Under the new changes, Safaricom subscribers will now be able to purchase airtime and data for any amount, starting as low as Sh1. However, the telco retained data packages with expiry dates.

“Today, we are starting afresh and going forward we aim to be even more Simple, Transparent and Honest in everything that we do," added Joseph in a statement.

Safaricom further assured customers that they will now be served within five minutes after lodging complaints.

Customers will also enjoy free WiFi at all Safaricom shops and get a SIM card with a phone number of their choice.

“In addition, the company will reorganize its shops across the country to provide a more personalized experience to customers,” Joseph noted.
