The family of a Kenyan student who drowned in Australia is appealing for financial assistance to repatriate her body to Kenya for burial.

Sharon Jepkosgei Kigen, who hailed from Moiben in Uasin Gishu County, drowned Sydney's south-west on Tuesday afternoon, 9News reported.

Sharon arrived in Australia in November 2022 and was a student at Australian Catholic university-North Sydney.

Emergency services were called to Georges River at Macquarie Fields after the woman "failed to resurface" when swimming about 3.45 pm.

NSW Police said they searched the water to find her.

"Officers from The Traffic and Highway Patrol entered the water along with members of the public and commenced to search the water where the woman was located and brought to the shoreline," NSW Police said in a statement.

NSW Ambulance paramedics performed Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) but she could not be revived.

Family and friends are targeting to raise AUD$20,000 to enable the body of Sharon be repatriated to Kenya

Kenyans need to learn to swim. This is sad. Another one in Canada it’s too much.

Surely sad as this maybe if you know you do not know how to swim simply stay out of the water. At university level you are way beyond bowing to peer pressure or impressing people you do not know or trying to fit in.Was she swimming alone if she was with friends not one tried to help her

Those who can't swim need to use Life Jackets & Vests(no need for them to stay out of the water). Not forgetting that even the best swimmers too can drown.

Majority of Kenyans didn't had any swimming lessons or water polls at their disposal now thy end up drowning on waters cuz of curiosity or peer pressure!!.

Kenyans need to stay away from nonessential liquid-affiliated activities in foreign lands. If drunk driving is not killing Kenyans, swimming is. Just drink water, take a shower, and leave the rest to experts. Stay healthy my countrymen and women.

Have to be wary of this statement am making. But, oh well....after a long time of contemplation I think this time is just as good as any other.

Here we go ..

After having lived here in the states for a good 18 yrs, finally made it back in 2018. Saw things in the churches of Nairobi and it's suburbs that I never believed happened here on planet earth milky way galaxy.

Kwa mfano, hizi pesa mnatuma home zinatumiwa na some of your parents kuwafunga, then eventually they sacrifice you for their own gain in longevity, power and wealth. Yes, mnatolewa tambiko.

Matter of factly, some of us are in the process of denouncing their kenyan citizenship.

Good luck continuing to send those $$. Hata huto tuplot once you buy them, your parents will grow crops (kiasi kidogo tu) just enough to offer as a sacrifice connected to your working hands. Connected with your sweat.

But, fear not. Our Almighty God is totally against this practice as EVIDENCED in Leviticus 18:21.
Victory ni kwa jina la Yesu tu! At the sound of his name every knee will bow and tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the Glory of God the father. Amen!

Huto tupentecostal churches... Hmmm!

Haiya! Nimemaliza!

PS//. Not trying to insinuate anything pertaining to her death. Too many young Kenyans are dying ovyo ovyo tu while living abroad and, felt time is now to say something.
